The New York Yankees had one of the worst seasons in 2023 in terms of their offense. Hence, they are looking for reinforcements this offseason. Moreover, the organization is looking to make a lot of changes this offseason. They got an extra month of off-season after failing to make the postseason this year. It has been a tremendous shame for a team that has won the World Series 27 times. Moreover, the Bronx Bombers were the second-worst team in the 2023 regular season in terms of batting average.

On top of that, the Yankees scored a mere 673 runs with a batting average of .227. They were 25th in terms of runs scored. Adding to that, the 27-time World Series champions were 29th in terms of most hits with 1207. On top of that, the Yankees base percentage was .304 as they were 27th. Hence, they are in dire need of a new slugger or two. According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Yankees can target Matt Chapman of the Toronto Blue Jays.

Feinsand mentioned that Chapman was a rising star four years ago. He earned his first All-Star, second Gold Glove, and second Top 7 AL MVP finish. However, Chapman has performed progressively worse in the following years. Despite dipping in offensive production, he remained a solid power slugger as he hit 27 homers each season. Moreover, he has been a brilliant third-baseman over the years. However, in 2023, his home run numbers dipped to 17. Albeit, the base percentage of Chapman was impressive. He maintained .330 on-base percentage and it has been his highest since 2019.

Moreover, Chapman ranked 4th in the AL with 39 doubles. On top of that, the Yankees must hurry because Feinsand mentioned that the free-agent market for third basemen is pretty thin this winter. Hence, Matt Chapman should earn a pretty good deal. Moreover, Feinsand mentioned the teams that possibly can sign Chapman are the Yankees or the Los Angeles Dodgers. Otherwise, the Blue Jays can just retain him.

The Bronx Bombers have not reached the World Series in the last decade. The last time they have been to the World Series was back in 2009 when they won their 27th title. Hence, the Yankees are desperate to make it to the big dance as per Aaron Judge, their 16th captain in the franchise’s history. Moreover, the captain mentioned the Yankees will make a lot of changes in their coaching department as well as their roster.

Even the owner Hal Steinbrenner mentioned that his team will make some changes in their personnel and some others too. Most importantly, the Yankees must bring reinforcements to their offense. Now, the question is what can they do about it? They were thinking about signing Juan Soto from the San Diego Padres. But if that happens it will be a pretty big deal. Soto is a superstar hitter and the Yankees really need one alongside their captain. But Soto is very expensive and the NY side might have to give up on many assets for that deal.
