At the upcoming August 1 trade deadline, the New York Yankees have multiple roster gaps to fill, including the bullpen. The bullpen has been a revolving door with inconsistency and injuries, keeping manager Aaron Boone from fixating an ideal and balanced relief lineup.

However, with the trade deadline approaching, the New York Yankees are being linked to multiple strong relief arms. Jon Heyman, the popular MLB insider affiliated with the New York Post, suggested a strange trade deal that involved arch-rivals Boston Red Sox. But will the Red Sox help division rivals gain an edge in the second half?

In an unexpected twist, Boston Red Sox star closer Kenley Jansen has emerged as a potential trade deadline option for the New York Yankees. The Bronx Bombers’ bullpen woes have refused to come down and have been a major factor contributing to the Yank’s losing streak, which might push them away from the postseason if the trend continues. Hence, the front office is on a mission to pursue bullpen help. That being said, Jon Heyman has suggested the Bombers as an ideal landing spot for Kenley Jansen. Jansen’s experience and composure in high-pressure situations make him an ideal candidate to stabilize the Yankees’ bullpen. His impressive stats, including a low 2.01 ERA in 31 appearances, a high strikeout rate, and a strong WHIP, highlight his effectiveness and reliability.

While trading with a rival is unusual, it’s not unprecedented. The Red Sox and Yankees have made deals before when it suited both parties, including the off-season trade of outfielder Alex Verdugo. The Red Sox, who might be looking to rebuild or retool their roster, trading Jansen could bring valuable prospects or major league-ready talent in return. On the other hand, for the Yankees, acquiring Jansen would be a bold statement of intent, signaling their commitment to making a postseason push. Overall, Kenley Jansen’s potential move to the Bronx Bombers is a surprising yet intriguing possibility. The New York-based outfit is desperate and, hence, might resort to extreme means to bolster the roster. And if that involves shaking hands with rivals Red Sox, the Yanks front office would certainly not mind it. With three weeks left before the deadline, the Bombers must move fast.

General manager Brian Cashman joined the New York Yankees ahead of their series against Tampa Bay Rays in the wake of the team’s recent struggles. Cashman added that due to Yanks strong start, they have the cushion to bear such losing streaks. However, the bad patch has lasted long enough and it must end before it causes serious troubles.

Additionally, Brian Cashman revealed that Yankees will head into trade deadline with an open mind. While he refused to pin point areas of concerns, the GM assured that the front office will bring outside pieces that benefits the lineup in the second half. “We definitely have areas to improve upon and we’ll do our best,” Cashman said.
