The New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals have a history of blockbuster trades and significant player movements. Whether it’s acquiring star players to bolster their playoff push or making strategic moves to build for the future, both organizations have demonstrated a willingness to be proactive in the trade market.

This off-season, both the teams are in some sort of a rebuilding phase. While the Yankees intend to recover from an 82-80 season, the Cardinals finished below .500. Ahead of crucial free agency, Derrick Goold of St. Louis Post-Dispatch strongly linked the two teams into a blockbuster trade involving three key outfielders.

Brian Cashman, the general manager of the New York Yankees, confirmed the obvious during his recent controversial press address. While revealing the team’s off-season plan, Cashman said they need two outfielders. While he refused to spill out specifics, Derrick Goold of St. Louis Post strongly linked the team to the Cardinals’ top three outfielders. In a detailed article, Goold said the Yanks and Cardinals will most certainly seal a trade this off-season. Furthermore, OFs Dylan Carlson, Brendan Donovan and Alec Burleson are persons of interest for Bronx Bombers. Dylan has been on Yank’s radar for a while now. His name also floated during the mid-season trade deadline, but a deal didn’t go through.

The same goes for Brendan Donovan. He also remained linked to the Yankees during the deadline. But apparently, the Bombers did initiate a move. Having said that, the off-season is a perfect opportunity for a New York-based outfit to start roster construction from scratch. Donovan is coming off a .284, 11 homers and 34 RBIs season, whereas Alec posted .244 with eight homers and 36 RBIs in 2023. Additionally, Donovan and Burleson also happened to be left-handed batters. Both outfielders are heading into a pre-arbitration year, which is perfect timing for the Yanks to land them in a steal deal. With Yanks and Cardinals already engaged in pre-trade talks, the odds of a deal going through are high. Having said that, whether the rumoured trade comes to fruition or not, the anticipation surrounding the blockbuster deal will keep floating throughout the off-season.

Gleyber Torres Linked To Red Sox In Unusual Trade Deal!

Meanwhile, Rob Bradford of Audacy has linked New York Yankees infielder Gleyber Torres to arch-rivals Boston Red Sox. He claimed that Boston had Torres on the radar last off-season as well but couldn’t make a move. A year later, he still remains on their target list, and this time around, the Red Sox will make a move. It might sound unusual for the Yanks and Red Sox to engage in a trade deal, but it only makes sense for both teams.

The Yankees have been wanting to part ways with Gleyber Torres for a while now. The baseman’s offensive contributions in 2023 were sadly not enough to save his career in pinstripes. Regardless, Torres will only thrive in Boston. He is still 26 with a load of potential stored. Perhaps a change in scenery will also help. On the other hand, the Yanks could be getting a left-handed option, Alex Verdugo, in return, which seems pivotal at this stage.
