Delhi Capitals officially announced Rishabh Pant would serve as the Captain of Delhi Capitals for the remainder of IPL 2021. Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the first half of the IPL 2021 due to an injury, and hence Rishabh Pant replaced him as a captain. But now, he is completely fit and is set to return to the team in the remaining half of IPL 2021.
This decision came as a surprise for some people because it was Shreyas Iyer who led Delhi Capitals to its very first final last year. However, Rishabh Pant is also performing extremely well. Delhi Capitals is at the top of the points table with six wins in the eight games.
The official Twitter account of Delhi Capital confirmed this news by posting a tweet. The statement reads, \”JSW-GMR co-owned Delhi Capitals today announced that Rishabh Pant will continue as Captain for the remainder of the #IPL2021 season.\”
Rishabh Pant Became Captain After Shreyas Iyer\’s Injury
Shreyas Iyer took the captaincy of the Delhi Capitals in the middle of IPL 2018. The last few years have been great for the franchise. Last year, then ended the tournament as the runner-ups. However, before the beginning of the IPL 2021, Shreyas Iyer suffered a shoulder injury and underwent surgery for it. As a result, Delhi Capital gave a chance to Pant to lead the team. He proved his worth as a captain in the first half of IPL 2021, and now he will like to cement his place as the skipper by winning the IPL trophy for the very first time.
