Reports: Yankees Prospects Jasson Dominguez & Austin Wells To Make MLB Debut On Friday Vs. Astros

The New York Yankees are seemingly out of playoff contention. With 28 games in hand, the team sits last in the AL-East, 7.5 games behind the playoff spot. Hence, in the upcoming month of September, the roster would be playing meaningless games just to complete their quota of 162 games. However, the Yanks have devised a plan to put the meaningless games to good use.

Since last week, the New York Yankees have made a series of roster moves wherein the youngsters and prospects have earned an opportunity to feature in the big leagues. Apparently, the team wants to test out their farm system to figure out who is best suited for a roster spot in the 2024 season. Amid these, rumors of more incoming prospects have gained momentum.

On September 1, the New York Yankees roster will expand to 28, which will open up two additional spots. Moreover, by parting ways with Harrison Bader and Josh Donaldson, the club has freed up additional two spaces. Meanwhile, the rumors market is buzzing with speculation over the Bomber’s next imminent moves. As per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, the No. 2 prospect of the Yanks farm system, Jasson Dominguez, will be promoted on Friday. Hector Gomez of Z101 Digital also claimed that a source close to the Dominguez family has confirmed that the 20-year-old called up his mother to ask her to mark his presence on his debut on Friday. The team is playing a series with the Astros, where the outfield prospect is likely to kick off his major league career.

Not only that, as per Jeff Passan of ESPN, catching prospect Austin Wells will also board a flight to Houston with Jasson Dominguez. The no.8 prospect made waves with his offensive prowess in Double-A and Triple-A this season. Moreover, since Jose Trevino is ruled out for the season, the Yankees are in desperate search of catching depth. Having said that, the franchise has not made any official announcement as of this writing. The whereabouts of the prospect duo are yet unknown. If the duo ends up making a debut together, they would script history. Also, future Hall Of Fame Justin Verlander remains the scheduled starter for the series opener. Hence, the young duo will have a daunting task awaiting them in the big leagues.

Yankees Continue To Expand Roster Space For Prospects

Spencer Howard

The New York Yankees made two underwhelming moves at this year’s August 1 deadline. One of them happened to be right-hander Spencer Howard. The former prospect was traded from Texas Rangers in exchange for cash considerations. Rangers were already looking to designate the pitcher for assignment at the time of the trade. While the trade didn’t make sense to the fans, Brian Cashman justified it, saying it’s a low-risk, high-value candidate.

However, just a month later, the Yankees released Spencer Howard from the roster. Howard had been in Triple-A and recently landed in IL. While the club is saying nothing, the move indicates incoming prospects. The roster is expanding on September 1, and multiple high-end names of the club’s farm system are lined up for promotion. Having said that, the 24 hours should paint a clearer picture.
