The curious case of Hall of Famer Klay Thompson’s future with the Golden State Warriors is taking new turns each day. The free agent, who spent all his NBA career with the Dubs, is reportedly considering external options after trouble hit paradise in the team’s woeful 2023-24 season.

Klay Thompson was moved to the bench in the latter half of the year, and it is understood that things went haywire between Klay and coach Steve Kerr thereafter. However, amid widespread rumours hinting at Thompson’s potential exit, Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy has confirmed his team’s stance on the shooting guard’s extension offer.

Klay Thompson, a future Hall of Famer and veteran shooting guard, is heading to free agency this summer. The shooting guard’s career with the Golden State Warriors, where he spent all his career and won four championships, is hanging by a thread. The Dubs, historically, remained one of the biggest spending clubs in the NBA. However, the introduction of CBT has left them cash-strapped. Moreover, with veterans such as Steph Curry and Draymond Green on the roster, the team is struggling to put up a lucrative extension offer for Klay. Amid this, rumours spread that Thompson was unhappy with the team and was exploring external options for free agency. However, general manager Mike Dunleavy has seemingly dismissed the rumours.

In the pre-draft session press conference, Mike Dunleavy confirmed that the Golden State Warriors want Klay Thompson back. “We’ve said that all along. Hopefully, he comes back,” Mike said. However, the GM stayed tight-lipped when asked to reveal details of the contract negotiations. Having said that, Mike’s words don’t match his actions. Klay Thompson was reportedly offered a two-year $48 million extension deal, which does not match Klay’s standards, said Tom Tolbert.

Apparently, Klay wants a three-year minimum contract to secure his future in the league, whereas the Warriors refused to budge at the two-year length. Tolbert added that Thompson feels disrespected by the organization’s lack of efforts and commitment towards his extension. And this frustration, fuelled by anger, could drive him away from the team in the upcoming free agency. All eyes are on Klay as he evaluates his options at a pivotal stage of his remarkable career.

Amid ongoing contract extension negotiation rumours, veteran shooting guard Klay Thompson set the internet ablaze with his latest activity on Instagram. Eagle-eyed fans on the internet noticed that the shooting guard had unfollowed Golden State Warriors and deleted all pictures associated with the organization from his official Instagram handle.

Fans drew the conclusion that this was the beginning of Klay Thompson’s end of glorious Warriors tenure. However, Thompson’s teammate Draymond Green downplayed the speculations, saying Klay’s activities are hilarious and blown out of proportion. He simply refused to link it to Thompson’s alleged exit from the organization, as Green is very much looking forward to playing with Klay next NBA season.
