Clearly, the New York Yankees are looking really good this season. They are on a roll with a 37-18 record. If they maintain this good momentum throughout the season, they can end the title drought. The last time they won the ring was back in 2009. It has been a really long time. Moreover, the last season was a painful one. They finished with a terrible 82-80 record. But the tremendous shame was because of them failing to make the postseason. The Bronx Bombers narrowly saved themselves from a last-place finish in their American League East division in 2023.

It was just that bad. But in the very next season, the Yankees are looking to redeem themselves. They have added Juan Soto and Alex Verdugo to their rotation. These are some really significant changes that they made in the offseason. Moreover, if things keep going their way, then the World Series is not far away. However, the biggest strength of the Yankees in 2024 has been the balance they have on their roster. But chances are it won’t be the same next season. Besides Juan Soto, there is another All-Star slugger who might not be a part of the team in 2025.

Yankees Might Let Gleyber Torres Go After This Season

Since the start of the 2024 regular season, Gleyber Torres has been going through a major slump. It was not looking very good for him. Lately, though, the All-Star hitter has been turning things around. Aaron Boone praised Torres, saying, “If he starts going, the team gets some real depth in the lineup.” Moreover, the last season was personally good for Torres, but definitely not for the team. Moreover, the Yankees have to deal with this fact that they have a lot of players who will be a free agent after the 2024 season is over. Hence, they won’t have this tight knit group next year.

According to Bill Madden of the New York Daily News, the Yankees can easily replace Gleyber Torres with Caleb Durbin, the young infielder. Moreover, the Daily News reporter said that the 5’6 infielder can easily replace Torres at second base in 2025. In December 2022, Brian Cashman acquired the Jose Altuve clone from the Atlanta Braves, says Madden. Coming to 2024, Madden believes Durbin has developed into a slugging machine in the minor league. Moreover, the Daily News reporter said, “At Triple-A, Caleb Durbin never gets strike out.” Will the Yankees replace Torres with Durbin next year? Only time can tell.

Torres Might Be Out Of Price Range Of The Pinstripes

For Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders at Triple-A, Caleb Durbin has appeared in 47 outings so far in 2024. Moreover, the young infielder has hit three home runs with 20 stolen bases and 36 runs. He has been slashing .299/.413/.458. Moreover, the Yankees might need Durbin to actually replace Torres because the latter might be too expensive. Gleyber Torres made his debut for the NY side in 2018.

Since then, he has been really great. Moreover, a few months ago, Torres said he wants to stay part of the Bronx Bombers for the rest of his career. However, when he becomes a free agent in the next offseason, he might be out of the price range of the Yankees franchise.
