The New York Yankees have missed their top prospect, Jasson Dominguez since he underwent Tommy John surgery. It was tough for the Bronx Bombers to maintain a winning streak in 2023 when many key players kept getting injured. As a result, it was inevitable that the team would not have a deep run into the playoffs last season. And they didn’t. The NY side has not made the postseason for the first time since 2016. They finished with a terrible 82-80 record. Nothing really went their way.

But since then, the front office has made significant changes in the offseason to bolster their lineup ahead of the current season. Moreover, the Yankees are up to a great start in the 2024 regular season. Currently, they are 24-13 and second in the American League East division. Lately, some more good news has been coming their way as the Yankees manager gave some positive updates on key players who have been on the Injured List for a while now. One of them has been the top prospect, Jasson Dominguez.

What Did Aaron Boone Say About Jasson Dominguez’s Recovery Status?

On Tuesday, Aaron Boone gave some positive updates on the injured players during the media session at the Yankee Stadium. During Tuesday’s pregame press conference, the Yankees skipper gave an update on Dominguez that got the fans buzzing on social media. According to Boone, the top prospect is looking good to start a rehab assignment in a couple of weeks. Moreover, the Yankees manager explained that Jasson Dominguez is getting close as he is in the middle of the month, which is when he should get started in games. Anyway, the plan as of now is that Jasson will play as a designated hitter strictly in the first couple of weeks. Gradually, the Dominican top prospect will get reps in the outfield as well. Then, he will get the chance to use his surgically repaired elbow for the first time in games. Anyway, the Yankees are not planning to rush Dominguez into the playing rotation.

He suffered a severe injury that needed Tommy John surgery. Moreover, the team has already got four fit and productive outfielders in their rotation so far. However, the fact that the top prospect is going to start competing in games is a big step. He might start competing in Tampa, the Bronx or even in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. It is important to remember that Jasson is not a finished product. In fact, he is far from that. Hence, it is essential that he gets comfortable physically after his surgery. The top prospect must keep developing against some talented pitching. Hence, the rehab program will be significant, and it will be more than just trying to get his timing back.

On Tuesday, Aaron Boone gave a lot of encouraging news to the fans. As per the skipper, the ace pitcher Gerrit Cole is making a lot of progress in his throwing program. The Yankees ace even tossed a second bullpen session. So far, things are going well in the rehab of the RHP. Cole was shut down back in spring training due to nerve inflammation in his right elbow. On the other hand, as per Boone, the veteran infielder DJ LeMahieu is gradually getting back to his baseball activities. He is getting very close to in-game action.

Last month, DJ suffered a fracture in his right foot. On Tuesday afternoon, the veteran infielder was taking some grounders at third base. He was planting and moving side by side with his injured foot. According to Aaron Boone, both these key players can travel to Tampa with the whole team on their road trip. DJ and Cole will continue with their rehab program in the Yankees complex at Tampa.
