The New York Yankees have found a new hero in Juan Soto in the ongoing season. Moreover, he had an electric start to his first year wearing the pinstripe uniform. Thanks to the presence of the Dominican superstar, the NY side is currently at the top of the American League East division. Moreover, the fans are really happy with the best hitter in baseball after 24 games in the 2024 season so far. He has already hit five home runs and 20 RBIs. On top of that, the four-time Silver Slugger winner is a top contender to win the Most Valued Player Award in the American League in 2024.
Now, the Yankees wonder if 2024 is going to be the only year for the 25-year-old superstar when he is part of the Bronx Bombers. Last offseason, the front office landed him for a year. He will be a free agent in the following offseason. However, the way Juan Soto started his stint with the Yankees makes it seem quite natural for him to sign a long-term contract with them. Moreover, the Dominican slugger can expect a contract close to Shohei Ohtani or even break that record if things end well in the 2024 season.
Can Juan Soto Break Shohei Ohtani’s $700M Contract Record?
Last offseason, the New York Yankees went all-in to trade for Juan Soto. They sacrificed a lot of their pitching resources to sign the Dominican superstar and Trent Grisham from the San Diego Padres. On the other hand, last offseason marked the historic signing of Shohei Ohtani. The Los Angeles Dodgers signed the two-way superstar for a mammoth $700 million over 10-year deal. A lot of people argue, but then a lot of fans agree that “Sho-Time” deserves a contract like that. After all, there is no other two-way superstar like the Japanese sensation in MLB. He really is the “Unicorn.” But then comes the best hitter in baseball, Juan Soto.

He is only 25 years old and has a long way to go in the big league. Hence, Soto must look for a 15-year deal. That should be enough to get close to the $700 million mark or even beyond that. Recently, MLB insider Ken Rosenthal mentioned, “I believe Juan Soto will get more money than the Japanese superstar.” Moreover, the insider added that Soto might even beat the present-day value of Sho-Time. And why not? The Dominican superstar, even though very young, already has a much better resume than most of the senior accomplished baseball players.
How Can The Yankees Seduce The Best Hitter In Baseball Sign A Long-Term Contract?
Juan Soto made his MLB debut in 2018 with the Washington Nationals. He played five seasons for the Nationals. In the very second season with the Nationals, Soto played a vital role in helping them win the World Series championship. Since then, he has won four Silver Slugger Awards, and also he is a three-time All-Star. There have been so many more accomplishments for the Dominican superstar already in MLB.

Hence, the Yankees would like to help him achieve more in his career as well as want him to help them win the World Series again. However, Michael Kay, the Yankees announcer said, the fans must control their emotions if they want Soto to stay. Kay pointed out that the fans were booing Aaron Judge for his slow start to the 2024 season. But the announcer believes that booing the Captain won’t entice Juan Soto to stay with them.
