DJ LeMahieu had a terrible season in 2022. After being off to a flying start at the beginning of the 2022 season, DJ went down with a broken bone on his toe. Moreover, he sat out for more than three weeks as his toe could not recover fully. Hence, the Yanks decided to leave him out of the postseason roster as they did not want to make a hasty decision and damage DJ’s health any further. Ever since, there has been no official update on his availability for the upcoming season.
DJ LeMahieu is an important part of the Yankees roster. His absence was deeply felt in the 2022 postseason as the Yankees fell short in the ALCS. Hence, his presence on the roster for the 2023 season becomes vital. Meanwhile, we finally have the breakthrough as a recent report provided positive updates on the infielder’s current condition.
DJ LeMahieu Will Begin Spring Training On Time, Says Bryan Hoch
DJ LeMahieu has been missing in action since the 2022 postseason. His broken toe took longer than expected to heal. Moreover, DJ’s absence recorded a slump in the Yankee’s form at large. Before DJ went out, the Bombers had a record of 69-34. However, after DJ’s departure, they slipped and finished at 30-29. Moreover, the 34-year-old did return for a few games but could not get the rhythm. Hence, the Yankee front office decided not to push it and dropped him from the postseason roster.
Meanwhile, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com has some positive news for Yankee fans. According to Bryan, the latest news coming in from the Yankee camp regarding DJ LeMahieu is positive. He further elaborated, saying that the conservative treatment is working well on the infielder. Hence, will likely avoid going under the knife and, most importantly, begin the spring training, which will be held next month, on time. Moreover, DJ is currently going through a rehab program at the Yankees camp in Tampa, Florida.
“The conservative treatment will permit him to avoid surgery and begin the spring on time,” reports Bryan Hoch.
DJ’s Versatility Is His Biggest Asset
The New York Yankees will be praying for DJ LeMahieu to recover fully on time. As much as they value DJ’s hitting skills, his ability to adjust at any position makes him a must-have on the roster. DJ has the versatility to field at three of the top four infield positions. Hence, that gives Anthony Rizzo and others the freedom to maintain their desired position. However, Rizzo, too, suffered a back injury after DJ went down. But both the infielder are expected to be back within the time frame, which is a positive sign for the Bombers.
The Yankees are all set and done with the off-season. They made a few substantial trades to strengthen the pitching rotation. However, injury concerns have once again hit the camp as Frankie Montas is down with a shoulder injury and is likely to miss the initial phase of the 2023 season.
