The New York Yankees went downhill in the 2023 season due to several factors. From offensive lackluster to unavoidable injuries, Yanks were simply a victim of ill fate. However, the Bronx Bombers’ loss proved to be Baltimore Orioles’ gain. The AL-East rivals took advantage of Yank’s horror run to secure the division title.

Not only that but to further rub salt in the Yankees’ wounds, the Orioles won the division title with Aaron Hicks, the most hated former Yankee outfielder. After the Yanks released Hicks mid-season, the Orioles picked him up, and the rest is history. Moreover, if some reports are to be believed, Baltimore is seeking more ex-Yankee options in the market to bolster the pitching staff.

Starting pitcher Domingo German received an unexpected promotion to the rotation last season in the wake of injury concerns in the New York Yankees camp. However, the pitcher failed to make the most of it. He faced an initial suspension due to a violation of a sticky substance. Later, German made a dream comeback by pitching a perfect game that etched his name into the franchise’s esteemed history books. However, despite everything, the pitcher couldn’t keep his personal life together. He was abruptly shut down mid-season for alcohol abuse treatment. Reportedly, German had an ugly alcohol-fueled outburst in the team’s clubhouse, after which the pitcher voluntarily entered the league’s alcohol treatment program.

Moreover, owing to his troubled past, the Yankees released Domingo German this off-season. He has completed the training. And is ready to rebuild his career from scratch. Interestingly, despite his troubled past, the pitcher has managed to garner extensive interest in free agency. Rumors have it that six teams remain in play for German, and two teams allegedly made an offer. Amid the buzz, the New York Post linked the Baltimore Orioles to the troubled pitcher. The reigning AL-East champions remain in dire need of a starting pitcher. However, the club is also not ready to spend big. Thus, they opted for Domingo German. However, the risks the pitcher brings with him are too steep. No matter how hard he tries, the past won’t ever leave off his back. Thus, the Orioles must review the implications before taking a plunge on the ex-Yankees pitcher.

In other news, the Chicago Cubs are floated as a top landing spot for free agent Cody Bellinger. The breakout slugger remained linked with the New York Yankees for a long while. Apparently, the team made a push during the trade deadline. However, tables turned in the off-season when the Bronx Bombers landed Juan Soto. With that, the club’s offensive gaps were filled.

Subsequently, the New York Yankees dropped Cody Bellinger’s pursuit. However, Bellinger’s free agency market has remained stagnant for the longest time. Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago Cubs were floated as the only top landing spot. Moreover, Jon Heyman claims Bellinger is most likely to land with his former team, the Cubs, this off-season. “I’m not saying it’s a guarantee in any way. I’ll just say that I think they are the favorites at this moment,” said Heyman.
