Red Bull Racing was caught off-guard when the senior technical director, who played an instrumental role in the team’s profound success, decided to quit the organization by the end of the 2024 season. Newey spent as many as two decades at Milton Keynes to transform the outfit’s fate in Formula One.

However, the political instability instigated by Christian Horner’s sexual abuse case pushed Adrian Newey to the edge as he officially jumped ships to Aston Martin for the 2025 season. Needless to say, Red Bull’s secret to success lies with Newey, and he recently revealed if that confidential information will be shared with Lawrence Stroll.

On Tuesday, Aston Martin formally announced Adrian Newey as managing technical director for the 2025 F1 season. After weeks of speculations, Newey chose to shake hands with business tycoon Lawrence Stroll to transform Aston Martin into a leading racing F1 team. That being said, Adrian Newey spent two decades at Red Bull and was a key figure in the team’s rise from rags to riches. His designed cars won multiple driver and constructor championships for the team. The RB19, which won 22 of the 23 races held in 2023, was also a product of Newey’s masterclass. Hence, RB definitely fears their secrets to success now being out of the open as Adrian switches teams next year.

However, Adrian Newey confirmed that any suggestion that he would divulge Red Bull’s proprietary information to a rival team is highly improbable. He added that F1 is a secretive business, with many also likening it to warfare. “We’re all competing against each other, and we’re desperately trying to hang onto our intellectual property that other teams don’t copy or understand,” Newey said. Hence, for him to share Red Bull’s secret information is highly unprofessional. Not only that, the 65-year-old refused to talk about his work of art, i.e. the RB series cars. However, he mentioned that RB18 was the original concept designed per current ground effect regulations. And RB19 and RB20 were just evaluations of the RB18 concept. Regardless, Red Bull is now Adrian Newey’s past. He is more focused on creating a new legacy at Aston Martin with Lawrence Stroll’s infinite support.

Max Verstappen race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase, populary known as GP, has reportedly signed an extension contract with Red Bull amid rumours of Ferrari and McLaren being involved in poaching tactics. Notably, GP is believed to be in line for internal promotion in the wake of sporting director Johnathan Wheatley’s exit to Audi.

Red Bull confirmed that Wheatley’s spot will be filled through internal promotion and given GP’s success with Max Verstappen, he will likely remain one of the leading contenders. Notably, Adrian Newey’s void will be filled by Pierre Wache, who’s actively involved in RB series design. Regardless, the team will definitely feel Newey and Wheatley’s void going forward.
