It has been a long time since the Mercedes team celebrated any achievement. They are desperate to win, indeed. But can this desperation lead them to approach Red Bull’s staff? None other than Adrian Newey, the man behind Red Bull’s most robust comeback ever? The chief advisor of team Red Bull, Helmut Marko, has accused the Silver Arrows of the same. Keep reading to know what the matter is exactly.
Since 2022, Mercedes has been on the back foot, with just one win. As some say, through the beginner’s luck of George Russell, the team has been failing to meet their own standards. Last year the Silver Arrows was the third team. And as the new season begins with five races over now, no progress can be seen. Mercedes is still a third team in 2023, 128 points behind Red Bull. They were apparently the fourth team, but since team Ferrari had been a victim of mechanical failures, Mercedes got a position upgrade.
What hurts the most is the history! Mercedes was not such a team in the past. It has dominated the grid for almost a decade, between 2014 and 2020. In 2021 despite losing Lewis Hamilton’s dream to break Michael Schumacher‘s record, team Mercedes succeeded in becoming an eighth-time constructor’s champion F1 team.
Mercedes’ Personal Assistant Called Adrian Newey To Discuss Future!
Mercedes last won a championship trophy in 2021. But the celebration was marred by allegations that Lewis Hamilton was unfairly denied his eighth title. The season saw Max Verstappen become an F1 world champion for the first time, and many believe it could be the start of a legendary career for him. The Dutchman has continued to impress with his strong performances since then. He is a two-time world champion with the record for most wins a season. While Mercedes opened the gate for their downfall, let’s guess. FIA’s regulations worked as fuel, and it burnt all reputation that Mercedes had held for so long. The Brackley factory failed to produce strong cars like RB18 and RB19. The Mercedes principal, Toto Wolff, gave the reason as “We don’t have any expert on these new ground floor regulations.” Now the question is, what did Mercedes do to have that EXPERT?
One of the insiders has claimed that Toto Wolff tried to poach Red Bull’s most anticipated staff, Adrian Newey. He has been the mastermind behind Red Bull’s two consecutive championship wins. Newey has been in Red Bull since 2006. And last week, he emerged to sign a new long-term contract with Red Bull. However, a very interesting thing appeared when a call from the Mercedes factory ran into Newey’s home. According to the insider, Mercedes’s personal assistant, who had been a Red Bull staff earlier, called the mastermind of Red Bull and informed him about the interest Toto Wolff keeps regarding his hiring. This remained confidential information, though.
However, Helmut Marko revealed this information to the Formula One insider. He alleged TP Toto Wolff for breaching the no-poaching agreement stating, “Mr. Wolff may not have people to fix the problems with their car.” And indeed, Mercedes is not full confidence in his own people. They have been retooling their mechanic staff as of late. Mike Elliott has been replaced by James Allison. They have been trying hard to look after each and every aspect in order to boost the driver’s performance.
