Two-time NL CY Young champion pitcher Blake Snell was a hot pitching commodity in the off-season market. And the New York Yankees were legitimately intrigued by the idea of having two defending CY Young pitchers in the rotation. Hence, the front office orchestrated a strong push for Snell in free agency.
However, despite the elongated free agency that extended into spring training, the New York Yankees failed to land Blake Snell as the veteran landed with Giants on a short term deal. That being said, in a latest podcast, the pitcher made a startling revelation on the details of Yankees’ mega offer.
Blake Snell Reveals Yankees Offer Didn’t Match $150 Million Value
The New York Yankees aggressively pursued two-time CY Young pitcher Blake Snell during free agency earlier this year. However, a deal couldn’t materialise as Snell was adamant about his substantial request. As a two-time CY Young awardee, the pitcher desired a handsome long-term contract. However, the Yanks deemed his request highly expensive and reportedly laid a final offer of six-year $150 million on his table, which Snell ended up rejecting in one go. Ultimately, the Yanks settled for Marcus Stroman on a $37 million two-year deal with a conditional option for the third year. Meanwhile, Blake Snell also failed to fetch the desired long-term deal and ended up settling for a two-year $62 million deal with the San Francisco Giants.
That being said, in the latest podcast appearance with Foul Territory, Blake Snell shared inside details of his off-season rendezvous. Snell revealed that the New York Yankees’ offer wasn’t even close to the rumoured $150 million. “The deal that came out, that wasn’t what was offered to me,” Snell said. However, the pitcher refused to dwell on the exact details, which prevented his signing with the Bronx Bombers. Regardless, Blake Snell is likely to enter free agency again in 2025. This year, the market was dominated by Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Hence, Snell can retry again next year and demand the long-term contract he desperately desires. Having said that, the Yanks are unlikely to make a move for Snell again, as their priority next year could undoubtedly be generational star Juan Soto, whose market value is estimated to surpass the $500 million mark.
Aaron Boone Deems Jazz Chisholm A Natural Third Baseman
Meanwhile, the New York Yankees traded outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr at the trade deadline to transform him back into an infielder. He was directly penciled into third base and despite concerns of adaptability, Chisholm is apparently adjusting better than expected. “He came up to me two days ago and said, ‘Man, I think I was born to play third base’,” Boone said.
The New York Yankees skipper Aaron Boone added that Jazz Chisholm Jr has handled the third base responsibility well along with the nuances associated with it. He almost seems a natural fit as Chisholm is extremely related at his position. “He’s made the routine play, he’s made great plays,” Aaron Boone further added in his statement.
