Mercedes is the only team to maintain a championship-winning streak for such a long time. No other team is able to do that ever again. Toto Wolff is confident that whatever Mercedes has achieved already is enough to challenge any other team in Formula One.

What does the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One team have, actually? They have a record for most consecutive Constructor’s championship win. The team dominated for 8 years on the grid. It has a seven-time World champion driver. The V6 hybrid era was utterly owned and mastered by Mercedes. These past two years may have dethroned team Red Bull. But will the Austrian racing team ever be able to beat Mercedes in making the impressive records they did? Toto Wolff does not think so.

Today Red Bull has the fastest car in the history of Formula One. They have Max Verstappen, who has the record for most wins in a season. But for the Mercedes boss, this stuff isn’t enough for Red Bull to maintain their domination for as long as Mercedes did. “The landscape has changed. And I don’t think that anybody will ever run away with eight constructors winning in a row going forward.

Why Can’t Anybody Make The Same Winning Streak As Mercedes?

This is because “the regulations are being designed in that way,” reckoned Toto Wolff. He knows today who the rivals are. He also knows that tomorrow the rivals will change because of the cost cap limits set by FIA. You can look at the unexpected rise of Aston Martin this year. But it is not a bad thing. In fact, it is what sports should be, believes Wolff. He believes that f1 is not about one team or three teams. It should be five-way battles, instead!

And why not believe in what Wolff says? His argument is almost correct. The emergence of Aston Martin has developed a four-way championship battle this year. Although, this is not a strong battle as Ferrari is still at its weakest at the moment. But it is fair.

However, it is still a four-way competition. As per Wolff, we should have five teams battling; that’s what makes the sporting heart throbbing. So the fifth team who is dying to come into the battle is none other than MacLaren! Its principal, Zak Brown, wants to see its American counterpart coming along on the grids of F1 soon.

In an interview with the RACER, he explained how thongs might go in Formula One and compared the situation with the IndyCar levels of Competition. This will include some weird positions taken by teams, one weekend at p7 and another at P17. Nothing for certain would be known. And you know what, “This is what is exciting,” not knowing what the result will be, just give your best!

He believes that in the future, we are going to see four to five teams battling for the championship that can have spread wins. One weekend they are at the front, another at the backfoot. However, at present, it is not about being at the front and winning in the spread; it is all about chasing Red Bull.
