New York Yankees have hit rock bottom ever since their captain, Aaron Judge, crashed into the Dodgers Stadium and toe the ligament of his right foot toe. Since June 6, the Yanks are tied for the seven worst records in all of MLB with a 14-20 record. The scoring, slugging, and on-base percentage are also at an all-time low.
However, with a week-long All-Star break and a change in mentorship, the fans hope for a change in fortune. To utmost disappointment, the Yankees ended up dropping further into the East division, the same division which they ruled in 2022 with 99 record wins. Meanwhile, with the latest humiliating loss to Los Angeles Angels, the team broke an unwanted 32-year-old club record.
Yankees Drop To Bottom Of AL-East Table For The First Time In Last 32 Years!
If you think the Yankees were bad in the first half of the 2023 MLB season, the second half kicked off on a far worse note than that. Since the All-Star break, the team has won just one and lost four games out of the five played so far. The losses included the one on Sunday wherein they blew out a two-run lead in the eighth and eleventh inning. That went down as the first-ever loss faced by the club by blowing out a two-run lead in eight innings or later. Moreover, a day later, on Monday, the team stooped to a new low.
With American League’s home run leader, Shohei Ohtani, in scoring position, the Yankees went against the idea of walking him to avoid further damage as the game was tied. Ohtani took full advantage of the Yank’s strategic misfire and blasted a tiebreaker home run followed by an iconic bat flip to rub salt in the Bombers’ wounds. Following the loss, the Yankees became the sole possessor of last place in the AL East division through 95 games for the first time since 1990. Of course, the team isn’t playing as badly as in 1990, but that also doesn’t mean they are in a far better position. With a record of 50-45, the playoff berth is getting farther away from reach. It’s just a matter of a couple of stretches before the playoff dream is completely dead.
Aaron Boone Admits Feeling Frustrated After Loss To Angels!
Yankees manager Aaron Boone poured his heart out after a brutal 5-1 loss to Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday. He said that the team has a lot of pride instilled within them, and they want to win. There is a reason they show up early every day at practice. A loss like this definitely takes a toll on the players. The feeling of frustration and anguish weighs the team down. At the end of the day, everybody is human. Eventually, every single one in the Yankee clubhouse will feel emotional.
However, their job as professional baseball players is to overcome that feeling and figure things out to get back to winning ways. Right now, the Yankee’s fate lies in their own hands. How they approach the next stretches of games from here on will reveal the club’s true character. Lastly, Aaron Boone said that the playoff dream is not lost despite plunging to the bottom of the division. The Yankees will leave no stone unturned in their efforts to turn things around.
