Yankees Prospects Randy Vasquez & Anthony Volpe

New York Yankees fielded a young and inexperienced roster in the Grapefruit League opener against the Phillies.

The Bronx Bombers begin their 2023 campaign with a spring training game against Philadelphia Phillies. The Yankees’ front office decided to field a young set of a roster to give them a first taste of major league pressure. Further, the inexperienced side did a fair job but ended up losing the game by 4-7. Nevertheless, it’s just the opening game of the 2023 spring training, and the team still has a long way to go before the 2023 MLB regular season begins.

Apparently, a few promising prospects did not disappoint. They stepped up on the opportunity and made the most of it by showcasing the talent on which they landed a contract with the New York Yankees. Among them were Randy Vasquez, Anthony Volpe and Jasson Dominguez. All the players impressed the fans as well as the front office in their debut game.

A pitching prospect impressed everyone in his spring training debut. Randy Vasquez is a left-handed pitcher who was signed by the Bronx Bombers as an international free agent in 2017. He has been referred to as one of the organization’s top pitching prospects. Last season he represented Somerset AA in the minor league and recorded a 3.90 ERA. Hence, the Yankees called him for spring training and gave him an opportunity in the Grapefruit league opener.

Randy Vasquez did not let this rare opportunity wash down the drain. He featured in the second innings and gave up a two-run home run against Weston Wilson. However, the pitcher was called back after one-third of the innings. Later, Randy made a comeback in the third inning and gave up two more hits. Further, the pitcher recorded two strikeouts just moments before begin called back in again. Overall, Randy was impressive in his debut game and is likely to receive more opportunities in the Grapeftuir league.

He started as the starting shortstop and wasted no time whatsoever. He recorded two hits and two stolen bases. Moreover, the shortstop toiled hard to get extra runs by running around the base.

However, his blistering start was cut short as the team called him in after the sixth innings. Nonetheless, Anthony Volpe certainly lived up to the hype. The fans are excited to see an early glimpse of raw talent with a highly promising future. Moreover, Volpe is likely to give more starts as a shortstop in the coming games of the league owing to his impressive debut run. Meanwhile, the Yankees will again have a doubleheader as they are set to face the Tigers and the Rays later today.
