Anthony Volpe All Set To Join Shortstop Lineup! Describes His First Week At Yankees Spring Training

New York Yankees top prospect Anthony Volpe described his feelings after completing his first week at spring training.

The 2023 MLB season is just a few weeks away. Further, the teams will begin the spring training campaign in a few days. The New York Yankees will take the field tomorrow against the Phillies in Florida. Moreover, along with the regular players, a lot of fresh talents are expected to feature in the starting roster for the Bronx Bombers. The matchup is crucial for the Yankees in order to fix a starting lineup for the MLB opening day.

   

One of the most exciting young talents this year is 21-year-old shortstop Anthony Volpe. The shortstop was listed at the top of this year’s top prospects list. Hence, the Yanks front office decided to invite the rookie to the spring training session. Further, as one week passed by, Volpe came forward to describe his time at the Yankees major league spring session.

The 22-year-old shortstop, Anthony Volpe, was selected by the Bronx Bombers in the first round of the 2019 MLB draft and has quickly established himself as one of the team’s most promising young players. Recently, he described his first week at spring training in an interview with MLB insider Bryan Hoch. Volpe said getting a chance to meet, sit and talk with Willie Randolph will remain the standout moment of the spring training for him.

The shortstop added that spring training is a cool opportunity for young prospects like him to showcase their skills and compete at the highest level of the sport. He also said that his job is to compete and grind hard wherever the opportunity strikes, and things beyond the field are out of his control. Further, Anthony Volpe often spoke about Aaron Judge leading the side. He said that he grew up watching and idolizing Derek Jeter and feels Judge is a like-for-like replacement for the legend in the leadership role.

“Anytime I get out on the field, I’m going to try and compete,” said Anthony Volpe.

Volpe Dominates Live Practice Sessions During Spring Training

Meanwhile, Anthony Volpe turned up for some hitting practice after doing fieldwork at the shortstop position. The top prospect faced Jimmy Cordero, James Norwood, and Ian Hamilton during the live batting practice session. Volpe took all of the pitchers to the cleaners and smashed them in all parts of the ground. His teammates and journalists present on the ground were in complete awe of the batter and gazed at the batter.

Overall, Anthony Volpe’s first week at spring training has been a positive experience for him. He is learning a lot, working hard, and enjoying the opportunity to compete at the highest level of the game.
