New York Yankees Could Eye Pirates Starting Pitcher At Tuesday’s Trade Deadline

As the 2023 MLB trade deadline looms on the horizon, rumors and speculations continue to swirl around potential trades. In the next 48 hours, rosters of various teams could shake up significantly. With less than two days to the deadline, the New York Yankees are yet to clear their approach. The team could be buying or selling simultaneously or may stick to just buying.

The major area of concern is the offense and outfield. Having said that, the Yankees would not mind adding a strong arm for a steal deal. The starting rotation is certainly struggling, with Luis Severino and Domingo German getting continuously overpowered. Meanwhile, ahead of the deadline, the Bronx Bombers are linked to a strong starting pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

While the offensive awakening is the key to New York Yankees’ resurgence this season, stopping the runs is equally important. As a result, the team could explore pitching options along with outfield options. With less than 48 hours to go by the deadline, the Bombers are now being linked to Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Mitch Keller. Mitch Keller, a promising young right-hander, has shown glimpses of immense potential during his time with the Pirates. The 27-year-old starter has endured his fair share of ups and downs since his debut. The pitcher is currently under Pirates’ control till the 2025 season and is earning $2.44 million per year.

Speaking of this season, Mitch Keller opened for the Pirates, and through 22 starts, Keller recorded a 3.97 ERA with 1.212 WHIP. His command over sweepers and fastballs perfectly fits into the Yankees’ pitching philosophy. Also, as per Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Yanks are likely to prioritize players with team control of more than one season. On the other hand, the Pirates are reportedly willing to listen to offers for Mitch Keller. However, since the pitcher has two seasons left in the current contract, the Pirates’ asking price will rise significantly. The Yankees will have to part ways with prominent prospects of the farm system to chalk up an exchange offer. Having said that, if they believe that Keller can make an immediate impact and provide much-needed stability in their rotation, they may be willing to part with some of their top prospects to secure his services.

Since the past few days, New York Yankees’ top pitching prospect Clayton Beeter has been linked to St.Louis Cardinals. Beeter, a 24-year-old right-hand thrower, has been playing with Double-A Somerset Patriots this season. In 12 appearances, he has pitched a remarkable 2.08 ERA. He ranks 13th in the Yanks farm system. Hence, the Cardinals would have to build a lucrative offer to lure the Bronx Bombers.

Meanwhile, Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson is someone who could interest the New York Yankees. Dylan is having a good season offensively as well as defensively. Hence, Carlson paired up with a prospect or two should land Cardinals Clayton Beeter in a significant trade deal. All eyes are on Tuesday as teams rush to hand out offers to land a significant trade deal.
