The 2023 F1 Season is all set to kick in, with all the teams set to launch their single-seater for the rest of the year. As fans are already aware, Haas has already revealed their F1 car today. And all the remaining teams are working their best to bring out their best version to compete with the champion Red Bull. However, another hot topic going around in recent times is the entry of significant names in the league. From Ford to Porsche to Cadillac and Audi, all the big league players are trying to get into the motorsport game with the new 2026 regulations.
Taking one step ahead, Audi has made a significant move to get a lead and secured a minority stake in the Sauber Group. Although this activity was expected from the German manufacturer as a partnership with Sauber was already announced back in October to begin in 2026. However, one of the front runners, Mercedes, has already indicated its views on new names joining the F1 grid. First, for Audi, and later, GM motors, along with Cadillac, get to face some harsh assessments from the Silver Arrows boss Toto Wolff. Although this rat and mouse chase is both ways, Audi has recently made some taunting statements for Mercedes.
Audi Taunts Mercedes For Operating In The UK
Currently, Mercedes is the only German Manufacturer in the Formula One grid. However, with the entry of other German counterparts like Audi and Porsche, the competition will increase. Stating the same, recently, Audi bombarded some miniature bombs at their domestic rivals. Pointing directly towards Mercedes, the Audi team mentioned several times,
\”This is the first time in more than a decade that an F1 power train will be built in Germany.\”
This statement comes out as Mercedes, a German team operating from the United Kingdom. Looks like Audi wants the Silver Arrows to feel challenged and have since spoken several times about Mercedes building sites based in the UK rather than Germany.
Formula One Facing German Draught Since Michael Schumacher
Even though two big players are quarreling, Germany is the one who will bare some good fruits from this situation. This is because only a few Germans have taken the lead ever since Michael Schumacher left the grid. Sebastian Vettel held the torch high as the only German after Schumacher until his son Mick joined the grid. However, Mick is also on the bench now after Haas released him after his 2022 stint with the racing team.
With the lessened number of important German names in motorsport, the German people have started losing interest in F1. And as history knows, Germany is one of the most important frameworks with which Formula One works. However, with the entry of Audi and its subtle quarrel with Mercedes, a possible German comeback in the hearts of old fans is expected. Moreover, this will also attract new, young German drivers to the sport.
