Max Verstappen, the current two-time champion in a row, has not been a big fan of the Netflix docudrama series, Drive To Survive, as he had said several times in the past. This Netflix documentary series was initially planned to focus solely on the Red Bull Racing team before it planned to cover the behind-the-scenes moments of all the teams in the Formula One Championship in general, as per James Gay-Rees, one of the executive producers of the show. The first season of the show was released on March 8, 2019.
The first season was based on the 2018 Formula One Championship. Fans all over the world credit this series to popularize the F1 sport in the U.S.A. Albeit, Max Verstappen did not like the series initially. The idea to make a Netflix series was because of the Formula One sport, which is prevalent everywhere except in the United States of America. In America, there is stiff competition between NASCAR and other Formula Motorsports. But NASCAR is the most popular racing sport in the U.S.A. To penetrate the U.S. market was the goal of the Netflix docudrama series.
Impact Of Drive To Survive
Needless to say, the James Gay-Rees, Paul Martin, and Sophie Todd team are highly successful in reaching their destination. In the new season of Formula One Motorsport, there are three new additions of Grand Prix in the U.S.A. with Miami, Austin, and Las Vegas. Despite the success of the Netflix series, many Formula One drivers are not fully happy with the show. That includes the champion Dutchman, Max Verstappen.
The Dutchman condemned the series for cooking up stories. And did not show much interest in participating in the series in the past. Max Verstappen had an attitude towards the series, like, “no interviews, no appearance on camera, nothing.” However, as times change, people, too, change their minds. So did the Red Bull Champ.
Change Of Mind For Max Verstappen
The current champion, Max Verstappen, mentioned, “It is important for me to participate in this series as the World Champion. As a champion and an ambassador of the sport, we need to do everything to spread the greatness of the sport. This show is helping Formula One reach another height of popularity. I’ll try my best to help this show achieve that goal in any way I can.” While speaking to RacingNews365.com, he added that he had already given half an hour or maybe an hour of an interview to the team of Drive To Survive. And he hopes “they are happy and will use some of it.”
The new season (season 5) will chronicle the Dutchman, Max Verstappen, defending his title. And the current champ just hopes it helps in the growth of the F1 sport. Max is not sure when he will be able to make time to watch it. But wishes to feel happy after watching it. The series will show Red Bull overthrowing the Silver Arrows from the constructor’s title. And Max Verstappen defended his driver’s title with absolute precision. On February 24, the new season of the hit Netflix series will release.
