One of the most expected and deserving personalities to get featured in the Formula One show at present is Max Verstappen. But as the trailer of Drive To Survive season 5 was released, fans began to criticize the two-time world champion. Some Formula One fans even called him a “hypocrite” after seeing the very first clip of the trailer. Why So? Probably because last year Max Verstappen claimed the show was “fake”, and then this year, he participated in it.
The Drive To Survive Formula One documentary is something that can make you an F1 fan even if you never knew about motorsport. Basically, Netflix covers the behind-the-scenes of the races that show the struggles of the team. But it creates an emotional vibe that attaches the team to the hearts of the viewer. We only get to see how Lewis Hamilton got defeated by Max Verstappen on track. How team Haas remained in the back of the grid. How Williams failed to make points during the play of Formula One season.
Max Verstappen Called Netflix Drive To Survive A Fake Show
But in the DTS, we get to see how what happened with Lewis after he lost the title. What’s happening in the paddock of Haas? How are they struggling? We get to see what motivated Williams to move on, respectively. Indeed, the Netflix show, Drive to Survive is responsible for making the new generation a Formula One fan.
With four seasons of the show, everyone in the world is impressed by the makers except the Red Bull driver Max Verstappen. He believed that makers do not portray the reality in the show. Last year, during the making of Drive To Survive season 4, Max Verstappen even refused to give interviews to Netflix. As a result, several important scenes, including his battle with Lewis Hamilton, remained hidden. This was probably the important footage of the 2021 F1 season, but as Max called teh show fake, he did let them feature the epic scenes of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where Hamilton lost his eighth world title.

When the media asked Max Verstappen for the reasons why he tends to refuse to participate, he said, “They make the fake portrayal of few rivalries that do not even exist in reality. Therefore, I decided not to be a part of the show.” He ultimately did not give any interviews to Netflix as he felt “there was nothing you can show, and he is nota. dramatic kind of person.” Max believes in only facts and real things that are not a part of Netflix’s Drive to Survive but then why did he participate in the fifth season of the show?
First of all, the producers of the show must have “figured out something,” as he said it just after Max Verstappen denied being featured in Drive To Survive. Apparently, there had been talks between F1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali and the driver that finally made him on board. He promised that there would be “no fake stuff” in the show. This might change Max’s decision as his only demands got accepted.
Meanwhile, some of the F1 fans do not find this sudden change of decision impressive. They tend to believe that it is “hypocrisy”. Via Twitter, one of a fan named @premystic said, “Now Verstappen wants to be in Drive To Survive after every narrative is flipped in his favor”.
Another added, “The same person [Max Verstappen] who called the show to be fake for many years. This hypocrisy is crazy.”
