The New York Yankees are set to turn the page on the disastrous 2023 MLB season. The focus is now on setting foot right into the 2024 season to avoid a repeat of 2023 at any cost. Moreover, the team management and front office seem hyperactive in their efforts to have a strong off-season and spring training as well.
The farm system is already in the clubhouse, preparing for the bigger challenge. Meanwhile, the front office has begun to look out for options outside the organization. Recently, Brian Cashman was spotted scouting an ace Japanese pitcher. Not only that, if rumors are to be believed, the Bombers already have an offer in place. Amid this, a major opportunity has popped up for the club.
Angels Apparently Ready To Trade Mike Trout If The Star Wants Out!
The New York Yankees’ prime target in the upcoming off-season would remain a strong outfielder. In addition to left field, the team now has a hole in center field as well. The Yanks’ preferred center starter, prospect Jasson Dominguez, is down with a UCL tear, which will keep him out for the major half of the 2024 season. While the team has set eyes on Cubs Cody Bellinger, a major opportunity could be created if starts align for the Bombers. Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports has claimed that the LA Angels are ready to trade superstar Mike Trout if the latter wants out. The outfielder signed a 12-year deal in 2019 and still has seven years left on the contract.
However, the outfielder has confirmed having a private meeting with the front office and ownership to decide on his future. The Angels’ mediocre performance is reportedly creating a sense of frustration amongst the core group. Having said that, if Trout ends up on the market, it would be a big blessing to the New York Yankees. Trout, when healthy, remains the best in the business. He is a three-time AL-MVP and 11-time All-Star. Injuries have been a constant worry for Mike, but his ability to make a difference when healthy should override all doubts. He is just 31, and he and Aaron Judge could pair up to become the deadliest offensive duo. Undoubtedly, Trout won’t come cheap. But his market value will more or less remain equivalent to Cody Bellinger. Hence, the Yanks need to keep a close eye and pounce on the first opportunity they get.
Yankees Interested In Cardinals’ Young Outfielder
Meanwhile, the New York Yankees continue to explore some realistic options. Apart from Cody Bellinger, the team seems interested in St.Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson. Interestingly, the team passed him on during the trade deadline due to their unwillingness to trade prospects. Having said that, things could change during the off-season.
Dylan Carlson, 24, is in the middle of his career-worst season, at least offensively. In an injury-plagued season, the outfielder could hit only five home runs with a batting average below .250. Having said that, the outfielder is young and still has a long way to go. With proper training and appropriate playing time, Carlson should be a perfect fit for the Yankees.
