Captain Aaron Judge Nominated For Roberto Clemente Award Despite Yankees’ Huge Downfall This Year

Aaron Judge has been an asset for the New York Yankees, even in hard times. The Yankees have not been able to win a World Series for a long time. But Judge is among the most popular stars of the Bronx Bombers in recent times. He created American League history after hitting 62 home runs last season. Judge broke the American League record of Roger Maris. Moreover, Aaron Judge’s passion for hitting homers has been apparent since his rookie season in 2016. Judge hit 52 home runs in his rookie season, it was MLB record for two seasons until Pete Alonso broke it in 2019. Aaron Judge won the AL Rookie of the Year in 2017.

He even finished second in the AL MVP voting in 2017. However, after hitting 62 homers in 2022, an MLB record, Judge has permanently named himself in the record books. Since then, the Yankees have always looked up to Judge as a leader. After last season, the Yankees extended his contract for another nine-year deal worth $360 million. Moreover, the New York Yankees named Aaron Judge their 16th captain in history. Since 1996, Judge is just the second captain. Recently, the 27-time World Series champions nominated Judge for the Roberto Clemente Award. It is a very big deal for the Yankees captain.

Every franchise nominates a player for this award annually to pay tribute to the Puerto Rican legendary right fielder Roberto Clemente. This award celebrates the achievements and character of the great Clemente. For the 2023 nominee, the Yankees chose Aaron Judge. Later, Judge mentioned he has been a big fan of Roberto Clemente since his childhood. He tries to model his game after Roberto Clemente. Hence, Judge feels it is a great accomplishment to get a nomination for such an award. Moreover, Aaron Judge talked about the greatness of the Puerto Rican legend. Additionally, Judge said Clemente had 3,000 hits and innumerable homers. But off the field, he was a great personality. Clemente had compassion and took care of every individual he met.

Clemente would always try to make even a young fan’s day special. Aaron Judge admires Roberto Clemente for his charity work for the young kids he did. Hence, Judge feels it is a huge honor just to get a chance to represent the great Roberto Clemente. Even Judge has been busy working on charities and building foundations for young kids. Aaron Judge founded the All Rise Foundation in 2018. Moreover, Judge’s Foundation helps motivate young kids to become responsible citizens and encourages them to reach unlimited possibilities. Judge’s Foundation also helps to honor those individuals who are an inspiration to young kids. Moreover, the All Rise Foundation has helped over 2,000 young lives since its inception.
