Sir Lewis Hamilton is the reason why the Silver Arrows have dominated the Formula One track for so long. After the F1 great Niki Lauda persuaded Hamilton to join Mercedez-Benz, he did in 2013. The legendary Austrian champion, Niki Lauda, joined Mercedes GP in 2012. Lauda acted as a non-executive chairman, and in 2013 another fellow Austrian acquired the shares to Mercedes GP, Toto Wolff. The combined forces of the trio Hamilton-Lauda-Wolff brought glorious days to the Brackley-based team.
Mercedes literally dominated the driver\’s and constructor\’s championships from 2014 to 2020. They were just unbeatable. Lauda died in 2019, and Lewis Hamilton won his seventh driver\’s title in 2020, equalling the German legend Michael Schumacher. From 2021 the F1 tracks witnessed the rise of new power and a new team, Max Verstappen, for Red Bull.
All of a sudden, doubts and speculations on the retirement of the great English racer, Sir Lewis Hamilton, are reaching sky-high. The seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton is 38 in 2023. Hamilton has expressed his feelings about racing at this age quite a few times. He mentioned, \”Sometimes I wake up nowadays and not feel 100% passionate about racing anymore. Instead, I\’m very excited about my foundations, like Mission 44 and Ignite. Recently, I launched my film production house, Dawn Apollo Films, which I\’m very hopeful for.\”
Is Lewis Hamilton lacking self-belief in recent times? Can Hamilton bring back the same level of courage and self-belief for winning another title as he once had? The seven-time champ will face competition from Red Bull and Ferrari and even from within his team. The Dutchman of Red Bull is gearing up for a hat trick of title victories in the upcoming season.
Summary Of The Past And The Possibilities Of The Future
Max Verstappen looks in fine touch. Nobody came close to beating him at the final Grand Prix last season. Albeit Charles Leclerc of Ferrari had the upper hand at the beginning of the previous season. Mercedes did not even make it to the top 3 last season. It was Red Bull and Ferrari. First and third for Red Bull and second for Leclerc. The only racer of the Silver Arrows who impressed the crowd even during a disappointing season was the talented 24-year-old Briton George Russell.
Russell won the only race for Mercedes at the Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paolo. For the first time in his career, Lewis Hamilton finished a season without a single race win. It was a total disaster for the Silver Arrows in respect of their veteran champion\’s performance and the condition of the W13 cars.
The drivers and the rest of the team blamed the poor state of the vehicle for their failure in 2022. The unit does not look very promising, even for this new season. Hamilton will face fierce competition from his teammate George Russell as he is young and hungrier to make a mark. If Russell repeats his performance from last year when he defeated Hamilton or if he performs better than the previous season, he may become the leading racer for the Silver Arrows.
But the fans worldwide will be rooting for Sir Lewis Hamilton to win his eighth title, surpassing the legend Michael Schumacher. The coveted eighth title will make Lewis Hamilton the ultimate F1 champion. But the question remains can he do it again?
