Sir Lewis Hamilton shocked the fans ahead of the 2024 season. He announced that he would move to Ferrari in 2025. Hence, the 2024 season marks the final year for the epic and most successful collaboration between a team and the driver. Moreover, the seven-time champion had won so much driving the Mercedes car that it is going to be an emotional season for both parties. Even when he debuted in F1 with the McLaren team, Hamilton used to drive Mercedes-powered cars. The German team was McLaren’s engine partners back then. Anyhow, Lewis Hamilton thought he would end his collaboration with Mercedes on a positive note.

But the 2024 season did not start as well as he wanted. The Silver Arrows are still struggling through the high-speed corners, and it is not helping Hamilton’s cause. He had a poor outing in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix this season. Hamilton qualified eighth, and he finished at P9 on the final day in Jeddah. However, that was the same track where Hamilton won his last race. The seven-time champion has been winless since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Lately, an F1 expert mentioned that the most decorated driver already seems to be at Ferrari “Mentally.”

It has really been a frustrating start to the season for Mercedes and Hamilton this year. After the opening of the Grand Prix in Bahrain, Lewis Hamilton finally mentioned that the car felt like a “Real race car.” For the last two years, Mercedes could not develop the right car for the two racers – Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. However, the young Mercedes racer was able to beat his veteran teammate in the first two races in 2024. But Hamilton later pointed out the lack of performance in the car. As a result, the W15 car is not able to gain more speed in the high-speed circuits. That is even more frustrating for Hamilton.

Moreover, the seven-time champion spoke about the bouncing issue being back. Later, F1 pundit David Coulthard spoke about Hamilton on Channel 4. The former F1 racer mentioned that Hamilton has just not been able to settle down with the W15 car mentally. Moreover, Coulthard mentioned Russell is honing the lap time, but Hamilton is on the backfoot right now. However, the F1 pundit also noted that if the great Briton finds a window of performance, he will deliver. In the meantime, he is heading off to Ferrari, and Coulthard feels Hamilton is already there.

As long as Mercedes adds performance to the W15 car, they won’t be able to find success around high-speed corners. Moreover, they want to change the current status of their team. But they just have to tolerate watching Red Bull dominating the grid. But Toto Wolff recently mentioned the team has been chasing fundamental changes.

It has been as long as two and a half years. Moreover, the Mercedes boss said they can unlock the performance gap in the Australian Grand Prix. He seems certain that they will come strong in Melbourne. Moreover, Wolff said, as per PlanetF1, “We are on a mission on this one.”
