Mercedes ace Lewis Hamilton has dominated the sport of Formula One for a significantly long time. He won the first F1 championship title back in 2008 and again returned to dominate the grid from 2014 to 2020. The Briton won six more titles in those dominating years. Even in 2021, he was in pretty good touch as he helped Mercedes win their eighth constructor’s title in a row. However, Lewis lost his grip on the driver’s championship in 2021 by a very narrow margin. Since then, rival Max Verstappen has taken his place as the top driver of the modern-day Formula One.

This year, team Red Bull has won all the races so far. Max Verstappen has won six, and his teammate Sergio Perez won a couple. Clearly, the Austrian team’s car, RB19, is the fastest on the grid and is the reason behind their hegemony. However, Lewis Hamilton has recently called out for a rule change that can prevent any team from dominating the grid for so long. What’s that? Keep reading to find out.

According to Lewis Hamilton, the Formula One teams must not start working on their car as early as they can. He believed that the F1 authorities could introduce a rule to stop the teams from working on their car for the next year. Hamilton told Sky Sports that Mercedes could catch up to Red Bull at the end phase of the season. However, team Red Bull has already started working on their next year’s car. That’s why they are so far ahead. And that is why the seven-time champion advised FIA to fix a time when all teams can start developing their car for the next year at the same time.

For instance, there can be a scenario when a team can have a bad car and decide not to do anything about it. Instead, the teams decide to put all their money into the development of the next year’s car. Lewis Hamilton acknowledged that he had been lucky similar to Max Verstappen, in dominating certain eras. But if no new rule comes along, then the process will keep going on and on. According to Hamilton, that is something that the F1 sport does not need.

Max Verstappen Hits Back At Hamilton For His Suggestion

However, in reply to Hamilton’s suggestion, the current double-time champion, Max Verstappen, asserted that “Life is unfair like that” in the FIA press conference. He even pointed out that it is not just in F1 but in life, where there are many unfair things. Everybody needs to deal with it. As per Verstappen, in a matter of a couple of years, things went topsy-turvy for Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton. And suddenly, they cannot find a car to win a race, let alone a championship. Last year, Mercedes won a single race via George Russell in Brazil. It was the maiden Grand Prix win for the 25-year-old Briton. But the seven-time champion faced his career’s first winless season. As things stand, after eight races in 2023, Lewis Hamilton is still not able to get back to winning ways. On the other hand, Red Bull is unstoppable at present.
