Lewis Hamilton Giving Some Serious Thoughts On Retirement, Fears Emotional Turmoil After Leaving Mercedes

Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time Formula One champion, has been in the sport for nearly a decade. With Mercedes, he has won six driver’s titles while equaling Michael Schumacher’s all-time high record. However, since the 2021 Abu Dhabi heartbreak, Hamilton has been feeling a little disconnected. He is yet to win a race in the past 18 months.

Meanwhile, the Briton’s existing contract with Mercedes is coming to an end post the conclusion of the 2023 F1 season. The extension talks are reportedly underway, but both parties have still been unable to reach an agreement. Amid these uncertainties, Lewis Hamilton has dropped a major hint about his future plans and revealed what his future in Formula One will look like.

Mercedes ace Lewis Hamilton, 38, is currently on the last stretch of his remarkable Formula One career. Being the second oldest driver on the grid, the British driver is contemplating his future plans, especially after Mercedes’ recent debacle. Hamilton is having a tough time staying connected to his car and is having trouble pushing the wrecked machinery to the limit. Naturally, for a highly successful driver like Lewis, the sudden struggle is too much to take in. Meanwhile, with the Briton’s contract coming to an end, he has shared his future plans. In a recent interview with Channel 4, Hamilton admitted that there are days when it doesn’t feel like continuing.

It’s because the F1 calendar is extending with each passing season. There is a lot of traveling involved. Excessive traveling took away a lot of time as Lewis Hamilton struggled to strike a balance between his social life and family. The British driver further added that retirement thoughts often cross his mind. But as soon as he steps into the paddock and in the car, his love for the sport outcasts every doubt. Further, Hamilton added that while he does not enjoy driving the W14, he still sees himself being with Mercedes for the next five years or so. However, the Briton did add that his plans could change anytime in the future. Regardless, Hamilton’s career in Formula 1 has been nothing short of extraordinary. With numerous records to his name, he has cemented his legacy as one of the sport’s all-time greats.

It could be either now or five years later, or two years later, someday, Lewis Hamilton will hang his helmet and bid adieu to one of the greatest sporting careers of all time. However, the Mercedes ace is worried about how life will look life after retirement. During the ‘On Purpose’ podcast, the British driver admitted that he might never be able to find an emotional replacement for the sport in his life.

Lewis Hamilton said that it would be really hard for him to endure the emotional void once he stops racing. He added that nothing in the world can replace the thrill and excitement of being in the paddock and racing in the stadium in front of a jam-packed crowd. The Briton will dearly miss the feeling. After all, he has been racing for the last 30 years of his life. He has devoted all his life to racing. At the end of the day, the fans would just want to enjoy Hamilton racing at his absolute best and witness greatness till it lasts.
