Lakers Could Target These Three Players In Free Agency After Waiving Off Mo Bamba, Malik Beasley!

Malik Beasley, Mo Bamba

The off-season kicked off on Thursday, and the Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly made their first moves immediately. As per Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Purple and Gold have waived Mo Bamba. The youngster arrived in Hollywood via trade in February and played nine games before succumbing to injury. By waiving the center forward, the team has freed up $10.3 million worth of cash.

On the other hand, as reported by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Lakers have declined Malik Beasley’s $16.5 million team option. Beasley joined the team during the trade deadline via a package from Utah Jazz. However, his defensive lapses and inability to generate consistent plays led to his ouster. Now that the Lakers have enough cash at the deck, they are free to make a move for these three potential trade targets in free agency.

Shake Milton – Shooting Guard From Philadelphia 76ers

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Shake Milton is a playmaking guard who has spent all his life at Philadelphia, warming the bench. Last season, he earned an opportunity to showcase his talent when James Harden and Tyrese Maxey suffered from injuries. In eight straight starts, Milton averaged 21.3 points and 6.0 assists. However, once the duo returned, the guard was shunted off the roster. For the longest time, he has been awaiting a significant opportunity at the 76ers. But it’s high time the guard makes a move. The LA Lakers, who are facing an acute shortage of potent guards, would welcome Milton with open arms. Moreover, with Malik Beasely’s departure, the space for an additional shooting guard has just opened up.

Dillon Brooks – Forward/Guard From Memphis Grizzlies

Ok, before any presumptions, just consider the scenario once. Despite Dillon Brooks‘ public beef with LeBron James, the Lakers must give Brooks a look. His three-point scoring percentage shot up as he recorded 6.0 per game last season. More than that, the purple and gold should acquire him for his defensive skills. He made it to the All-Defense last season, and honestly, his sheer aggressiveness on the rim makes him a force to be reckoned with. While his uncanny antics could pose an issue in the future. But it’s nothing the Lakers can’t deal with. Overall, if the team wants to strengthen its defense, Dillon Brooks is the right man for the job, and Memphis Grizzlies have already cleared the way for the move.

Bruce Brown Jr. – Point Guard From Denver Nuggets

To dethrone the ultimate competition in the West, the Lakers need an inside man from Denver Nuggets. Bruce Brown Jr. played a crucial role in the Nuggets’ championship run this season and wants to stay back. But the harsh truth is that Denver will not be able to offer him more than $7.8 million for the next season. Hence, if he wants to stay in contention for the championship, the Lakers are his best bet. Hollywood has $12 million per year to offer him now that Beasley and Bamba are gone, along with the chances of playing the postseason. Shooting-wise, Bruce has been average. But his defensive skills and high basketball IQ makes him a valuable addition.
