Key Injured Yankees Pitcher Just Took His First Step In The Recovery Process

The New York Yankees faced major injury issues before the start of the 2023 season. They lost as many as eight regular players to the injury list, including key pitchers of the starting lineup. However, as the season advanced, players marred by injuries have made steady progress and taken significant steps in the recovery process.

Jonathan Loáisiga, a key member of the New York Yankees bullpen, has been dealing with an injury that has sidelined him for the 2023 season. He has been an integral reliever of the Yankees bullpen, and his absence has been felt by the team. Hence, fans and analysts alike have been eagerly awaiting an update on his condition, and a Yankees insider has recently revealed some important information.

Jonathan Loáisiga suffered inflammation on his right elbow, which landed him on a 15-day IL prior to the start of the season. However, his comeback got delayed as the team stayed cautious with him and did not want to risk further injury or aggravation of the existing issue. Meanwhile, MLB insider Bryan Hoch has shared a crucial update. In a tweet, Bryan wrote that Jonathan has begun throwing on flat ground in the Yankee stadium’s outfield.

For context, throwing on flat ground remains the initial stage of the throwing session for a pitcher. Post this, Jonathan will hit multiple bullpen sessions and a live BP before heading into rehab assignment. Hence, it still could take a couple of weeks before the pitcher can make his way back to the ground. Regardless, the Yankees will undoubtedly feel happy to have Loáisiga back in action as soon as possible. His return would give the Yankees even more depth and flexibility in their bullpen. That could prove as a key factor in their pursuit of a deep postseason run.

Ben Rortvedt To Begin Rehab Assignment

New York Yankees injured players have made excellent progress in the past couple of weeks. Josh Donaldson and Harrison Bader already began their rehab assignment in the minors a few days ago. Now, another key catcher is headed their way. Ben Rortvedt underwent surgery in March due to an inflamed shoulder. He has been on IL ever since and has made good progress so far. Hence, after multiple assessments, the Yankee assigned him to a rehab assignment with the Single-A Tampa.

Ben Rortvedt had stayed on the sidelines for over a year. He last made his major league appearance in 2021 with the Twins, wherein he hit .169 with three homers and seven RBI in 39 games. Regardless, he remains a key part of the Yankees catching depth which has almost been negligible in the aftermatch of the constant injury concerns. Hence, the fans would hope for an early return of Ben. The Bombers have made a great start to the 2023 season. However, they have to continue this form till the very end of the season to live the 13-year-long championship dream.
