Juan Soto Touted To Land At New York Mets Next Year: REPORTS

Juan Soto is a Yankee, but only for the 2024 MLB season. The New York Yankees traded him earlier this off-season with only one year left on his contract with the San Diego Padres. While Soto is excited to debut in pinstripes, speculations over his future in the league have been rife regardless.

Juan Soto is one of the hottest hitters in the league. And barring a divine intervention from the New York Yankees, the left-handed slugger is scheduled to hit free agency next off-season. However, a renowned MLB insider suggested a bizarre idea that could land Soto at Queens next MLB season.

Juan Soto is yet to kick off his short stint with the New York Yankees. But speculations over his future beyond the 2024 season have been a topic of hot discussion so far. Soto, the 25-year-old generational slugger with a championship win and three all-star accolades to his tally, is an impending free agent. And if rumors are to be believed, his market value is expected to soar to $500 million, irrespective of his performance in pinstripes. However, as far as extension with the Yankees is concerned, that’s unlikely to happen. Randy Miller of NJ Media claims that Hal Steinbrenner won’t rush into signing a player who earns $100-200 million more than captain Aaron Judge.

In such a case, his agent, Scott Boras, will suggest he test free agency waters where Boras can call the shots with his deceptive negotiation skills. Interestingly, Randy Miller believes that Juan Soto will most likely land at the New York Met’s next free agency. Miller expects Soto to fetch a Shohei Ohtani-like $700 million deal if he manages to register an MVP-caliber season with the Yankees. But on the flip side, if Soto’s bat fails to deliver, he will settle for a $500 million contract, which is still colossal. But it’s apt for a generational talent like Soto. Notably, the New York Mets are one of the few franchises in the league that can afford to shell out this kind of money. “I fully expect that Juan Soto will be playing in Queens next year,” said Miller. Yet, the Yankees are expected to make a final push before the slugger makes up his mind.

Meanwhile, Juan Soto is getting himself comfortable with the Yankee atmosphere. On his debut spring game, Soto slammed a three-run bomb over the left field scoreboard. And received massive applause from the crowd in Tampa. The slugger was seemingly moved by the amazing reception at a spring game.

After the game, Soto said how he was looking forward to getting cheers from the Yankee fanbase. All his life, he had only heard boos. So, this was the change he wanted to experience after becoming a Yankee. Clearly, the generational slugger is enjoying himself in the pinstripes. Will that change his mind about impending free agency? Only time will tell.
