The New York Yankees are enjoying a great start to the current season. It has been a little over a month, and the NY side has shown real signs of progress. They needed to do something special at the start of the season because 2023 was a big disaster. First of all, they could not make the postseason for the first time since 2016. Then, they finished with an awful 82-80 record. Clearly, it was their worst season in the last 30 years. On top of that, they had the second-worst batting average in the league. The NY side was only better than the nine-time World Series champions, the Oakland Athletics.

If that was not enough, then they had a very long Injured List to deal with. Hence, the Yankees needed significant changes in the offseason. The NY side sure made a lot of changes and improved their outfield quite a bit. Alex Verdugo, Juan Soto, and Trent Grisham joined the Bronx Bombers in the offseason. Moreover, the former Boston Red Sox outfielder is enjoying a great start with the NY side. But things might change when Jasson Dominguez will return from injury.

Like Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo will be a free agent at the end of this season. He joined the Pinstripes for a one-year deal. It has been more than 50 years since the Boston Red Sox had a trade deal with their arch-rivals. But when it happened last offseason, it sent Verdugo to the NY side. Anyway, Alex is really enjoying his time in the Bronx. The former Red Sox outfielder will be 28 shortly. But his future in MLB is a bit uncertain. So far, the fans in New York have been loving the new cleanup hitter. Verdugo has been impressive both defensively as well as offensively. Last Tuesday, Alex Verdugo said he could not be happier at the moment. He praised the organization, team, and the staff. However, the fact of the matter is the Yankees have a couple of top prospects as outfielders in the wings.

Jasson Dominguez and Spencer Jones are waiting to make their mark in the major league. On the other hand, the soon-to-be 28 outfielder can end this season well and sign a lucrative deal somewhere else. Before Verdugo becomes a free agent, he can be the left fielder of the Yankees going deep into October. Moreover, the former Red Sox hitter mentioned that he feels humble as the Yankees gave him the cleanup spot. Last Tuesday, in the post-game interview, Alex Verdugo said he feels like the small guy in the group but frankly loves it.

The Yankees manager has been very happy with Verdugo’s form so far in the regular season. It was Aaron Boone who inserted Alex into the cleanup spot. Verdugo replied with some real good performance. Moreover, the Yankees skipper praised the former Red Sox outfielder’s personality. Boone said everybody is loving Verdugo in here.

Adding to that, the manager said he gets the feeling that even Alex Verdugo is loving his Yankees experience so far. But more importantly, Boone said now everybody is able to see how talented Verdugo is “On both sides of the ball.” Moreover, Boone said that Alex has been excellent and everybody saw the spark. Clearly, Boone added that the left fielder is bringing an edge with him to the ballpark everyday.
