Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso are two greats of the Formula One motorsport. They have been arch-rivals since their McLaren days, as the internal rivalry between Hamilton and Alonso was a hot F1 topic for discussion back in those days. But Hamilton and Alonso have grown to be fond of each other over years of competition. Currently, they are the two oldest drivers on the grid.
Even at 41, Fernando Alonso is driving well and has already gained six podiums out of eight this season and is currently holding the third position in the drivers’ standings. On the other hand, Lewis Hamilton is in fourth place. However, the Spaniard is still 15 points ahead of the Briton. But Hamilton has a good chance to go past his former McLaren teammate if the upgrades to Mercedes W14 work well in Austria two weeks later. Amid this to-and-fro game between these two champion veteran drivers, the duo once again shared a light moment in between and after the Canadian Grand Prix. Check out.
Lewis Hamilton Makes Fun Of The Spaniard’s Reflexes
In the recently concluded Canadian Grand Prix, fans witnessed an exciting battle between two veterans, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso. They were going full throttle against each other. At the very start of the race, Hamilton successfully overtook Alonso. However, in the middle of the race, the Spaniard used his Aston Martin’s high DRS power and overtook the Mercedes driver. Albeit both gained podium finishes. But Alonso finished at P2, while Hamilton had a P3 finish. And while answering a question regarding how he overtook Alonso at the lights out in the post-race interview, Hamilton poked fun at Alonso, who was standing right beside him. The seven-time champion purposely joked about Alonso’s reflexes and said, “Fernando’s reaction has gone slower, it is an age thing.“

But the situation got more hilarious when the interviewer saw Alonso listening to Hamilton’s joke. That’s when he asked Fernando Alonso for his reaction. To that, the Spaniard replied, “We’ll see in Austria in two weeks.” Just after this, Alonso patted his former McLaren teammate on his shoulder. Clearly, they shared a good laugh about the whole thing and later got busy giving their respective interviews. Not only that, further in an interview with Sky Sports F1, Fernando Alonso joked about not wanting to see Hamilton in his car’s mirror on the race track.
Fernando Alonso Feels Hamilton Is The Last Person He Wants To See On His Car’s Mirror
There was a significant duration when Lewis Hamilton chased Fernando Alonso, trying to snatch the second position at the Canadian GP the last weekend. When asked about the same in an interview, the two-time champion mentioned, “Lewis Hamilton is the last driver I would like to see closing down on pace.” Alonso said that he feels that it was their most competitive race in terms of pace this season. Sometimes Alonso was even faster than the Red Bull car and thought the second place was easy after losing a little pace. But then he saw Hamilton in his rear mirror coming fast. However, Alonso had a little more pace in hand, and it helped him beat the Mercedes driver. Moreover, the seven-time champion was never in the DRS gap, and hence, the second-place finish was easy for Alonso in the end.
