Mercedes lost its competitive edge in 2022 and 2023 subsequently as they struggled with the conceptually flawed car. While the Silver Arrows managed to get a win in 2022, it seems the 2023 season would go down as worst in the team’s history as they still haven’t been able to attain a win. Having said that, Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time world champion, has turned the page on the 2023 season already. He has been working closely with the team back in Brackley to get the W15 development right. Lewis recently spoke about his chances of closing the gap with Max Verstappen in 2024, and his response brought much-needed encouragement to his fans.

Lewis Hamilton, during the media day of the USA Grand Prix, said that he is praying every day to get as close to Red Bull as possible. He wants to chase down Max Verstappen to fall back in the championship race. Not only that, Hamilton said that he believes he is one of the only drivers on the grid who is capable of defeating Max in robust machinery. But to accomplish the goal, he requires equal contribution from Mercedes’ end. The British driver added that to chase Verstappen, he not only needs a competitive car but also better pit stops and strategy from the team. Once he is equipped with the tools, Hamilton is confident of attaining his eighth world title in 2024. Having said that, only time will tell if Lewis’ confidence has some substance or if it’s nothing but a far-fetched dream.

FIA invited criticism when they reopened the investigation into Lewis Hamilton’s live track crossing violation. After crashing with his teammate on the opening lap, Lewis was forced to abort his race and step out of his car. However, while returning to his garage, he crossed a live track, which was termed law infringement. Thus, FIA issued a fine to the British driver accordingly.

However, a week later, FIA reopened the investigation, stating that they wanted to determine if Lewis Hamilton deserved severe punishment considering his role model status. Many believed that Hamilton was singled out. However, the Mercedes ace feels it was a clear case of miscommunication. What they said didn’t quite seem to align with what they meant. Moreover, the Briton believes that safety remains FIA’s top priority, and the entire incident rooted from that objective. Still, Hamilton urged FIA to ask their PR agent to do a better job next time around.
