Former Golden Glove Winner Kole Calhoun  Threatens To Leave New York Yankees

The New York Yankees initially faced a lot of injuries which forced them to bring in reinforcements from the farm system as well as the free-agent market. However, two months into the season, most of the regulars are slowly making their way back to the lineup. This threatens the roster spot of a few of the reinforcements. Just yesterday, Oswaldo Cabrera, Franchy Cordero, and Matt Krook faced demotion due to the reinstatement of Giancarlo Stanton, Josh Donaldson, and Tommy Kahnle.

Under such circumstances, there isn’t much room available in the roster for now. Hence, many players of the Yankees farm system are reportedly looking out for their future. One such former Golden Glove player, who arrived in April, has now threatened to leave the clubhouse as he is all set to opt out of his existing clause.

Outfielder Kole Calhoun has long been recognized as a standout defensive player in Major League Baseball. Known for his exceptional range, strong arm, and ability to make acrobatic plays, Calhoun has earned widespread praise for his contributions in the outfield. His Gold Glove award in 2020 only solidified his reputation as one of the premier defensive players in the game. Despite his defensive prowess, Calhoun’s role on the New York Yankees has been limited, which has seemingly caused frustration for the veteran outfielder.

With a crowded outfield roster, including established players like Aaron Judge, Calhoun has found playing time harder to come by than he anticipated. This lack of opportunities has likely led to his discontent and desire for a more significant role. Another cause of frustration for Calhoun is his Triple-A resurgence. For a 35-year-old, Kole is doing a phenomenal job in the minors with a .963 OPS. Hence, as he sees no future in the Bronx, the outfielder remains more than happy to walk away. As per MLB insider Jon Morosi, Calhoun will exercise his June 1 out clause and will become a free agent if the Yankees fail to include him on the roster in the next 72 hours.

Its confirmed now that veteran outfielder Kole Calhoun no longer remains part of the Yankees clubhouse. He opted out of his existing contract and remains an unrestricted free agent. Speaking of landing spots, three teams could stay interested in landing the veteran. Firstly, St.Louis Cardinals could use the services of Calhoun to deepen their depth further.

Next is Calhoun’s ex-team, Texas Rangers. The Rangers have not done so well in the outfield since the outfielder left. Hence, a possibility of a reunion cannot be ruled out for sure. Last but not least, Atlanta Braves. The Braves remain desperate for a left fielder. While Kole Calhoun is traditionally a right fielder, he is experienced enough to make a switch at this stage to keep his baseball career afloat. All things considered, the ball will remain in Kole’s court to choose the best fit for him.
