The 2022 season has been utterly dominated by Max Verstappen and Red Bull in such a fashion that, after one point, it started to seem a bit unfair for the other teams. In 15 out of 22 races, Max Verstappen finished in the first position. There is no doubt that Dutchman\’s performance in the season has been sensational. However, some experts are also arguing that the rules this season also favored him. And looks like Martin Brundle is one of them. Recently, Brundle has demanded FIA make some specific changes in the rule and regulations.
Martin Brundle Wants FIA To Change These Rules!
For the next 2023 Formula One season, Martin Brundle has urged that the FIA make some significant changes to the F1 Drag Reduction System. The DRS had become too powerful in 2022, said the Sky Sports analyst, which had diminished the thrill of passing. According to the new regulations put in place to make races more thrilling, overtaking is reportedly up by 25% from previous seasons. Brundle, though, said that it was now too simple to pass vehicles. And Brundle has asked the stewards to decrease the zones for the next year.
According to Martin, the DRS has unquestionably been used too harshly. Passes must be performed while braking and are made down the straight. He contends that the DRS must involve the driver to make the overtake rather than simply allow it. It must reduce the separations and postpone activation. The FIA\’s head of aerodynamics, Peter Somerville, emphasized the necessity of the tool earlier this season.
However, he admitted that the FIA would want to see the gadget eliminated in the future. Somerville mentioned to Peter Windsor during their talk that during the preliminary study. They had decreased the size of the hole that is located behind the automobile. It has decreased the amount of downforce lost. However, they also dropped the tow.
Peter also believes that, if possible, they would like to try and phase out DRS over the longer term. However, they did not believe that doing so would necessarily be the best course of action for these policies moving forward. Sergio Perez, Daniel Ricciardo, and a number of other drivers have already asserted that the new restrictions make it easier to pass other vehicles. Valtteri Bottas also forewarned that the DRS was probably going to get stronger under the rules package before the new season.
The FIA was considering a number of alternatives for how to include DRS in the new 2026 regulations, Somerville continued. He also suggested that the gadget may play a secondary role in future automobiles, leaving the driver to handle overtaking duties.
