Ferrari Likely To Copy Red Bull’s Design To Get Back In The Game? Team Principal Discusses Plans

Undoubtedly, Ferrari and Mercedes are really struggling in the new era of limited budgets. Other than the Silver Arrows, the Italian team has been struggling to win a season for a very long time. Formula One and FIA introduced the cost cap rules back in 2021. As a result, every team has got a fair chance to build their car on the same budget.

However, it seems Mercedes and Ferrari are not coping with the new rules as well as Red Bull. But looks like the Prancing Horses are ready to make some big moves in the design department. Reportedly, they are ready to copy Red Bull’s Design, as the Austrian team is the only F1 group that seems to understand how to work in the cost cap era. The RB19 car is undoubtedly the fastest car on the grid at present.

Ferrari Need To Copy RB19’s Design To Get Back On The Right Track

For two consecutive races, Red Bull had a one-two finish. And overall, they had already secured four one-two finishes in five races up till now this season. But Ferrari has been nowhere in the picture in the final rounds of the five Grands Prix this season except in Baku. Charles Leclerc had a P3 finish in Baku, Azerbaijan. That has been Ferrari’s first and only podium finish this season up till now. On the other hand, Mercedes had a single podium finish in Australia when Lewis Hamilton gained P2. Hence, the two powerhouses have a lot to change in their car. Aston Martin has been a revelation this season with Fernando Alonso, as they are holding the second position after five races. Moreover, Aston Martin has copied Red Bull’s RB19 design and has used a lot of parts from Mercedes for their car, like, the gearbox, rear, and so on.

It seems like replicating the Red Bull’s design might work for both Mercedes and Ferrari. However, team Principal Frederic Vasseur insists that they will stick with their original plan for the car’s design. Ferrari had a tough time with SF-23 up till now. According to the Ferrari boss, it is too late to make a duplicate of specific RB19’s side pod design. The new DRS rule has helped the Ferrari drivers to gain confidence while steering the wheel. But the Ferrari team will stick to their car’s design and make more adjustments in the coming races like in Imola and Barcelona. Ferrari must find a way to develop their platform with SF-23. They are 146 points behind the Austrian team. Mercedes and Aston Martin are close to each other in the constructor’s standings. Moreover, Mercedes is only 6 points behind Aston Martin but 128 points behind Red Bull.

Rich Legacy Of The Italian F1 Team

However, Ferrari is among the oldest powerhouses and most successful constructors of the sport. It has been a powerhouse since the 1970s with Niki Lauda and James Hunt era. However, the most successful period of Ferrari came with Michael Schumacher on the steering wheel. The German great won five titles with Ferrari.

Albeit, the 21st-century Mercedes era and the current Red Bull era have created a lot of obstacles for the Italian team over the years. Currently, Mercedes, too, has lost their grip on the title, and the only team that is thriving the best is Red Bull.
