Besides Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen are the only current F1 drivers who have tasted the World Championship. It is highly unlikely that Max Verstappen will leave Red Bull anytime soon. Moreover, Mercedes has won only one race in the last couple of years. On the other hand, the Dutch driver has won 34 races over the previous two seasons. He has been quite unstoppable. Everybody knows who the current driver to beat is. Mercedes has one racer who can challenge the Dutch driver for the title. But he is leaving the team after the upcoming season is over. For the last two years, Lewis Hamilton has been winless.

Mercedes failed to provide him with the right car. After much thinking, the seven-time champion decided to end the long-time collaboration. He will don the iconic “Red Uniform” next year, driving for Ferrari. Hence, Mercedes is in a pickle right now, trying to find a replacement for Hamilton. Who’s it going to be? Fernando Alonso had a pretty impressive season for the Aston Martin last year. After the 2024 season, the two-time champion might not extend his contract with Aston Martin. Instead, he might sign with the Silver Arrows as George Russell’s new teammate.

The Spaniard joined Aston Martin last year for a two-year deal. Hence, at the end of the season, he will have to extend his contract with Aston Martin if he wishes to continue with the same team. During the final day of the pre-season testing in Bahrain, Fernando Alonso mentioned among the three champions on the grid, he’s the only one available for negotiations in 2025. However, the Spaniard racer added that he would let the early races of the new season play out before he starts focusing on where he’ll race in 2025 and beyond.

According to Autosport, Alonso said he is in a good position to negotiate. But he doesn’t want to think too much about the future before he completes the first couple of races. He said it is going to be the longest-ever season in F1 with 24 GPs. And he wants to see himself in the new season. There are a couple of things Alonso is focusing on right now, and the 2025 season is not one of them. He wants to change the travel schedule a bit. Moreover, Alonso hopes things will be efficient in 2024. He wants to arrive at the end of the season with high energy.

Fernando Alonso was a little late to the news of Lewis Hamilton leaving Mercedes. He heard the news a day later as he was busy with his training. Moreover, the two-time champion was not expecting action so soon in the driver’s market. He was expecting summertime to have some action.

But Alonso said, “It started really early.” Moreover, Alonso added that Mercedes And Ferrari started it too soon. Since then, more actions have been taken. So far, 13 of the racers in the grid are still out of contract at the end of this year. But with the announcement of Hamilton’s move to the Italian team, the driver’s market got a kickstart, feels Fernando Alonso.
