However, league authorities only sanctioned $50 million as they deemed it enough to cover the necessary costs.
Having said that, Padres’ financial situation could be a blessing in disguise for the New York Yankees. The financial constraint will force San Diego to walk Juan Soto as he is projected to earn $31 million in his final year. This clears the path for the Yankees to exploit Padres’ desperate situation and negotiate a steal deal for Soto.
