EXPLAINED: Why Max Verstappen Thinks Red Bull Still Has A Lot To Do To Improve?

Max Verstappen and Red Bull had a season to remember so far in 2023. Clearly, they have been the most dominant team in recent times. The Austrian team went on to win in 20 races this year after 21 races overall. Albeit, one more Grand Prix is remaining this year. It is the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Moreover, the Milton Keynes team would like to finish the season on a happy note. They’ve won everywhere except in Singapore this season.

Now, the difference between the Singapore track and others can be a topic of discussion. Every season, the F1 rules change a bit. And then, with the 2026 regulation changes, things will get more difficult for all teams, including Red Bull. Hence, Red Bull must be wary about the areas where they need to improve and keep a close eye on them. That’s what Max Verstappen talked about in Thursday’s press conference.

According to Max Verstappen, Red Bull is not strong at street circuits and similar tracks to the one in Singapore. The Marina Bay circuit provided Red Bull with a lot of challenges this year. Moreover, Max Verstappen pointed out at the race in Las Vegas where he and Red Bull struggled a lot. On top of that, the three-time champion mentioned that low speed is not Red Bull’s strongest area. Moreover, bumps and curbs also trouble the car, as per Verstappen. Hence, the Red Bull star feels there is a big area where the team needs to get a whole lot better.

Moreover, there is a scope for other teams to close the gap with Red Bull in the next season. Red Bull and Max Verstappen have a lot of faith in the car designer Adrian Newey. The triple-time champion is confident that Newey and the Milton Keynes outfit can reduce the deficit before the next season commences. But the rivals will take notes anyway to exploit the weakness of the Austrian team. However, the Dutchman believes the Red Bull team is working night and day to fix the issue with low speed.

But the domination of Red Bull has been nothing short of remarkable. Max Verstappen would like to finish the season with 19 wins. It will be a new record in F1. Anyway, the Austrian team has been breaking several records this year. But the star of the team has been the Dutch champion. Verstappen became a three-time champion this year. He’s on another level in terms of dominance. Many experts believe if Max were out of the equation, then the season would have been much more competitive.

Moreover, there is a good chance that Verstappen can go on to break Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher’s record of seven title wins. But to get to that stage, Verstappen will need Red Bull to keep providing this kind of superior cars for a few more years. However, that is easier said than done.
