Explained: Lakers Working Out With Tristan Thompson But Not Signing DeMarcus Cousins! Why?

Tristan Thompson-DeMarcus Cousins

The Los Angeles Lakers have had a tough season so far. They will need all the help they can get. Clearly, Rob Pelinka and the front office is looking to improve the roster as much as they can to help Darvin Ham to get an ideal lineup ready for the remaining regular season games. Apparently, the Lakers have a problem with critical players sitting out due to injuries.

Furthermore, the February trade made a difference in the current Lakers bringing in balance and skills. Mo Bamba is one such player who came in the purple and gold brigade in February but has stayed unavailable due to an injury. He may not play another match in the current season. That is why the Lakers’ front office is once again looking for options that can help the squad win the remaining games.

The front office will need to prevent all sorts of calamities that can happen in the form of injuries. Hence, the team will need replacements until the regular season. The Lakers on Monday brought in former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate of LeBron James, Tristan Thompson. After that, Tony Bradley also had a workout session for Rob Pelinka’s side. If included, they will improve the Lakers in rebounding as they are more skillful in that area than Jarred Vanderbilt, Rui Hachimura, and Dennis Schroder. Thompson has been in good touch, and he can prove immensely helpful in the next games. Anyway, the Lakers need to win as many games as they can from the remaining ten games.

But the question is, if Rob Pelinka is looking to increase reinforcements in the roster, why is he not bringing in one of the current free agents, DeMarcus Cousins? With his skills and experience, Cousins should be the one up for grabs. However, the problem with the man from Alabama is his temperament. This is the reason why DeMarcus Cousins could not stick with any franchise for more than a season except the Sacramento Kings. Boogie is a four-time NBA All-Star and a two-time gold medallist with the US National team.

Lakers Are Looking For Solutions, Not Any More Troubles

Rob Pelinka – Lakers

DeMarcus played for the Kings from 2010 to 2017. But then, because of his attitude could not stay anywhere for long. Cousins was a part of the Lakers in the 2019-2020 season but had a bad impression on the team’s GM, Mr. Rob Pelinka. The Lakers GM clarified that even if Boogie is available as a free agent, the LA franchise is not interested in him. Not just the Lakers, though; many teams are not keen to take the risk to buy him.

But the primary concern of the Lakers has been the unavailability of LeBron James. Initially, LeBron James was supposed to return on March 24 against the Thunder. But there are more speculations regarding his recovery speed. He may not play another game in the regular season. But again, some say that James may return this season if the Lakers qualify for the postseason. Or the King can return in April for the few regular season games next month. But the Lakers have no time to wait for when LeBron will come back. It is clearly a make-or-break situation for the LA franchise.
