The New York Yankees’ 8-games winning streak was broken by the Seattle Mariners as they sealed back-to-back games earlier this week. First, the Mariners humbled Clay Holmes by putting an end to his 20-game scoreless streak. And then followed it up by toiling around Clarke Schmidt in the second game.

However, the New York Yankees weren’t going down with a fight at home, and the team came roaring back in the third game as the offense blew up with all the outfielders registering at least one home run. However, the tone of the magnificent win was set up by starting pitcher Nestor Cortes as he extended his insane home record.

Nestor Cortes of the New York Yankees has been a revelation this season, especially at home, as he continued his dominance in the Yankee Stadium on Wednesday in game 3 against the Seattle Mariners. Cortes threw five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and as many walks while striking out six batters. While relievers Michael Tonkin and Luke Weaver allowed three runs towards the end, the offense had done its part perfectly to propel the Yanks to a magical 7-3 win and keep the four-game series alive. That being said, Cortes was exceptional with stuff on Wednesday, as his fastball and cutters were on point. However, he was made to work initially, as he threw 74 pitches in the first three innings.

Regardless, Nestor Cortes bounced back in the final two innings to finish the start with 97 pitches before injury returnee Tommy Kahnle relieved him. Notably, with another scoreless start, Cortes lowered his ERA at home to 1.11. He has given up just five earned runs and five walks in six starts at home and struck out 41 hitters as well. However, Nestor Cortes has been equally a disaster on the road. In five away starts, the pitcher poses a 6.75 ERA, with 19 earned runs and 10 walks in 25.2 innings pitched. Nerveless, Cortes’ home record has been exceptional, and the Yankees will continue to count on him in the pinstripes. That being said, the Yanks will face the Mariners again on Thursday with the four-game series on the line. Prospect Luis Gil will be on the mound again to extend his terrific form.

Left-handed pitcher, Nestor Cortes’ ERA at the Yankee stadium, lowered to 1.11 after his five scoreless innings start against the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday. When asked about his secret behind such a stellar run at home, Cortes quickly offered credit to the fans. He said the constant support brings out the best in him.

“It’s special to pitch here. To have that fan base behind you and know that every time you’re on two strikes, they’re pumped up for you,” said Nestor Cortes in a post-game interview. Overall, as the season progresses, the Yankees will continue to rely heavily on Nestor Cortes and his consistency and dominance at home mound.
