The New York Yankees have a sea of youth developing in their farm system. The same youth came to the rescue late into the 2023 season. Yanks called up prospects Jasson Dominguez, Everson Pereira, Oswald Peraza, Austin Wells, and Estevan Florial during September when the season was already lost.

However, that didn’t stop the Baby Bombers 2.0 from thriving on the big stage. Each and every player displayed glimpses of positive energy and hope for a better future. However, a WFAN radio host recently picked up a trend through which the Yankees have destroyed their strong youth, and he expects the same to pan out with the Baby Bombers 2.0 squad.

Keith McPherson Claims Yankees Will Ruin Their Youth Through Dubious Strategies!

The youth moment launched late into the 2023 season brought a glimmer of hope for the Yankee fans amid a brutal season. Many believed that the club’s future remained in safe hands with the kind of talent budding in the minor league system. However, WFAN radio host Keith McPherson suggests otherwise. He says the Yankees have a pattern of ruining their youth’s potential by stunting their growth upon reaching the big leagues. Keith further cited the example of Anthony Volpe and said that very rarely in the past have they backed a player like they did Volpe. “They didn’t do that for some of these guys. Miguel Andujar? Ruined him. Clint Frazier? Ruined him,” said McPherson.

The radio host certainly did not stop there. He further added that the Yankees are on a path to ruin Oswald Peraza’s future. It’s because they aren’t handling his situation right. The Yanks called him up in 2022 during the ALCS. “He didn’t belong in the ALCS playing against the best team in baseball. That’s a tough test for a rookie late in the season,” explained McPherson. Keith even used the example of Estevan Florial to point out how the Bombers ignored him the whole season long despite a visible gap in the outfield. He was even critical of the handling of pitchers like Randy Vasquez and Jhony Brito. Ultimately, McPherson believes that a lot of players in the past had the potential to do wonders for the club. However, the front office’s lack of sincerity in developing those talents doomed the franchise.

Bombers To Bank On Youth Energy In 2024!

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees are apparently planning to extend the youth moment in 2024 as well. After a stellar show from the prospects in 2023, the Yanks believe that youth energy is the way forward. Thus, it is highly likely that the 2024 season roster would be constructed around young blood.

While veterans like DJ LeMahieu and Giancarlo Stanton would keep their place, the inclusion of Austin Wells, Everson Pereira, and Jasson Dominguez is inevitable. Having said that, the youth influx could result in a couple of imminent exits. Players like Kyle Higashioka and Isiah Kiner-Falefa are unlikely to escape the decisive off-season. Overall, it would be interesting to see how the Yankees front office approaches the coming free agency to fall back into the championship run.
