Sir Lewis Hamilton will join Ferrari next year. The whole world is waiting for that moment when the most successful racer drives for the most iconic F1 team for the very first time. There are Formula 1 fans all over the world, and they just can’t wait for that moment. It was a tremendous shock for the fans early this year when the seven-time champion announced his switch to the Prancing Horse. Nobody really could digest the fact that the great Briton could leave Mercedes to join the Italian car manufacturing team. Initially, fans thought Hamilton would end his career with the Silver Arrows.

Moreover, there were rumors that Mercedes and Lewis would soon sign a contract, looking at a post-retirement timeline for when he would be an ambassador for the team. But that won’t happen, as Lewis Hamilton signed with the Maranello team and will look to have a long future with them, maybe even as an ambassador. It has been a while since the Mercedes star announced his departure, but it still is the most shocking news of the year. Lately, Bernie Ecclestone called Hamilton “Selfish” for moving to Ferrari.

Ex F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone said Lewis Hamilton is “Too much of a handful.” This reaction comes after the seven-time champion announced in February that he signed a multi-year contract with Fred Vasseur’s team. Recently, in an interview with RacingNews365, the former boss of the Brabham team said that it was a strange move to make. The former Formula One’s overlord said the 2025 Ferrari move proved that the relationship between Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton is not as tight as it seemed. Adding to that, Bernie mentioned, “Wolff relied on Hamilton an awful lot.” But now, it seems as Bernie says that they were close for selfish reasons, “Both of them.” Ecclestone believes there was a reliability issue between Wolff and Hamilton.

That’s why he believes the seven-time champion decided suddenly to bid goodbye to the Silver Arrows. Moreover, Ecclestone said he doesn’t understand the reason behind giving a “Year’s notice.” The former F1 supremo believes Lewis Hamilton could have waited to announce it during the middle of the season. Moreover, Bernie said that perhaps Ferrari was not clever enough while signing the soon-to-be 40-year-old racer. He added, “It was perhaps more of an ego thing.” Bernie feels Toto Wolff and Mercedes allowed Hamilton to enjoy a lot of power within the team. They just wanted to keep the seven-time champion happy. But Ecclestone believes if it was on him, then he would never have signed the great Briton.

Next year, Lewis Hamilton will reunite with Fred Vasseur, whom he has known for such a long time. When Hamilton won his GP2 title, now called F2, Vasseur was his team principal. Since then, they have always had a friendly term. Moreover, the seven-time champion seems to have a good relationship with John Elkann, the Ferrari Chairman. It has been a year since reports suggested that Ferrari offered Hamilton 40 million pounds to leave Mercedes.

But Ecclestone believes the “Ego” of the Ferrari Chairman has a lot to do with this move. Adding to that, the former F1 supremo said for Elkann, it is a matter of great pride that he managed to land the best F1 racer in “Many people’s opinion.” Ecclestone said these things can happen when certain circumstances can come together.
