Stephen Curry has been the backbone of the Golden State Warriors since his NBA debut. Before he came to the Bay Area, the Dubs did not look like a championship-winning team. The last time they won a championship was back in 1975. But then, who knew if they could become the new modern-day Dynasty? Perhaps one man knew, and that was Stephen “Three-point King” Curry. He had the belief and trust in his teammates that they can take the team to the summit. And that’s what happened from 2015 to 2022.

Albeit, they did not win in every one of those seasons. But they won four NBA titles in the span of eight years. However, like every good things come to an end at some point, the Dubs Dynasty will end when the talisman will retire. He is already 36. Father Time might catch up with him soon. Then, what will the Warriors do? They must be thinking about the worst possible scenario when they have to look for a replacement for Stephen Curry. Who’s that going to be?

Recently, a Western Conference executive told Heavy Sports that of all the guys the Warriors can trade for, Dejounte Murray might be the most realistic option. That anonymous executive added that the Dubs can add him because he does not make a ton of money. Moreover, the Warriors can put Murray in the spot of Chris Paul. They may also have to give up two first-round picks. However, with Murray on the roster, the Western Conference Executive said that the seven-time champions will have some “Good defense and a pretty good scorer in there.” That’s why Dejounte Murray makes some sense to replace the Dubs talisman. Moreover, Murray is 6’5, who can guard three spots. He is not a bad shooter. But most importantly, Murray won’t break the bank of the GSW.

A top prospect who won’t break the bank for the Warriors is a big deal for the franchise. After all, the San Francisco-based team has one of the highest luxury tax bills in the NBA. Moreover, the Dubs franchise should not wait longer before they trade for Murray. If they can land him sooner, then Stephen Curry will be able to teach him a thing or two. Nevertheless, the Western Conference executive mentioned that no one will be able to replace The Three-Point King. However, the exec believes it is essential to look at every possible option. Moreover, if the GSW lands Murray now, they can have a point guard for another ten years. That’s a good start to replace Stephen Curry.

Why Warriors Might Select Murray Over A Wing?

Looking at the current Warriors roster, the logical conclusion for the Dubs is to target a wing. The 2023-24 season has been horrible for the modern-day dynasty. In the play-in stage, the Sacramento Kings knocked the Golden State out of the competition. Moreover, the top stars of the team, besides Stephen Curry, did not live up to the expectations. Draymond Green and Klay Thompson had their worst NBA season this year. On top of that, Klay had a scoreless game against the Kings in the play-in game.

He will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. Hence, Dejounte Murray is the likeliest option to come in place of Thompson, if the Dubs finally trade him. Murray had an impressive 2023-24 season for the Atlanta Hawks. He averaged a career-high 22.5 points. Moreover, his durability is noteworthy as well. He played 78 games this season and 74 in the previous one.
