Aaron Judge Objects To Orioles’ Aggressive Approach After Getting Hit By A Pitch
The Yankee Stadium turned into a battlefield on Tuesday after hosting two most competitive teams of AL-East, the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles. Tensions flared in the third inning when captain Aaron Judge was hit by a 94 mph fastball off Alert Suarez. Judge was whimpering in pain. But stayed in the game before getting eventually removed in the following innings as Trent Grisham replaced him as a pinch hitter. Moments later, Gleyber Torres was also hit by a pitch, which led to a loud shout from the Yankee dugout directed towards the Orioles’ bullpen. The heat only increased when Nestor Cortes threw a blow at Gunnar Henderson with a high-and-tight fastball.
While Aaron Judge avoided a serious injury scare after clearing X-rays and CT scans, he objected to the Orioles’ approach. “Definitely pissed. There was a couple of balls up and in,” Judge said after a 4-2 win. Alex Verdugo also took a dig at Suarez, saying when someone comes for their captain, the team does not take things lightly. However, Albert Suarez claimed innocence and argued that he was just trying to throw up and in. The same pitch that hit Judge was previously fouled. Hence, Suarez does not believe he did anything against the spirit of the game. Henderson backed Suarez and said that pitchers are trying to get competitive in MLB, and there is nothing wrong with that. However, the incident has flared up a new modern-age rivalry between the Orioles and Yankees. With still 2 games left in the series, emotions are expected to run high from both ends.
Will Judge Continue With The Orioles Series?
The big question giving sleepless nights to Yankee fans is Aaron Judge’s injury status. Aaron Judge was cleared of any physical damage to his arm bones or ligament after a fastball hit him on Tuesday. The captain, however, exited the series opener against the Orioles early. That being said, with nothing on CT scans, Aaron Judge is unlikely to miss any time.
He said in the post-game interview that he feels relieved to dodge a bullet. Moreover, the captain has apparently informed Aaron Boone that he would like to resume playing on Wednesday in Game 2 of the Orioles series. However, a final call lies with Boone, who will assess risks before allowing Judge to take the field.
