George Russell Might Like To See Fernando Alonso Replace Lewis Hamilton

But the rumor about Alonso joining Mercedes had been a talk for a long time. However, since Hamilton declared his decision of joining Ferrari in 2025, that rumor has been getting the most attention. Lately, Toto Wolff was having breakfast with the manager of the two-time champion. That helped the rumor gather more steam. Flavio Briatore posted on Instagram documenting his breakfast date with the Mercedes boss. They had breakfast at a bakery named Pasticceria Cova Montecarlo in Monte Carlo.
This social media post made every fan come to the conclusion that the meeting was about the Spaniard joining the German team. But what was more intriguing is the fact that George Russell liked the post. Perhaps he is subtly suggesting that he likes the fact that Alonso will replace Lewis Hamilton in Mercedes. Maybe it is nothing that important. But who knows, it might just be. Moreover, the contract of Fernando Alonso is expiring at the end of the 2024 season. Hence, like Hamilton, maybe Alonso would like to look for a new challenge as well.
If Mercedes Presents The Right Car, The Spaniard Won’t Mind Switching Teams
Among all the other drivers, Fernando Alonso is one racer who has not been loyal to any one F1 team. He kept switching teams throughout his career. After winning two back-to-back titles with Renault, he moved to McLaren. But his complicated relationship with his then teammate Lewis Hamilton made him think things through.
He moved back to Renault. In modern times, Alonso left Alpine to join Aston Martin. And that turned out to be the right decision. But if Mercedes presents a better opportunity, then he can think things through again. However, the Spaniard said that his priority would be to first sit down and discuss with Aston.
