The New York Yankees had a great start to the current season. They have dominated the American League East division so far. After a horrible 2023 season, who knew the team would be again a top contender for the World Series this year? However, this season, the team really looks good and is a worthy contender. Things changed drastically when the NY side managed to land Juan Soto for a one-year deal. Ever since the addition of the Dominican superstar, the offense became one of the most potent batting lineups in the league. But of course, in the end, injuries can play spoilsport. For instance, Aaron Judge had a terrible toe injury last year that turned out to be a torn ligament.

Then, he had to miss out on 35 games in a row. This year, during spring training, he hurt his abs and missed a few more games. But Aaron Judge looked fit in the regular season and kept getting better. On the other hand, Juan Soto has been superb in the pinstripe colors but missed the Los Angeles Dodgers series due to forearm discomfort. Later, he returned to the lineup against the Kansas City Royals. Anyway, when the Judge-Soto duo stays fit, the Yankees don’t need to worry or change too much. But before the 2024 MLB Deadline, the Bronx Bombers might look to bolster their bullpen.

Recently, Andy Martino of SNY reported that the Yankees could look to trade for a couple of pitchers of the St. Louis Cardinals – JoJo Romero and John King. The Bronx Bombers don’t need to change too much after the kind of first two months they had in 2024. But they won’t shy away from increasing depth if the opportunity presents itself. There are two areas on their roster where they would like to have more depth – bullpen and infield. The bullpen is an easier area to address because there are too many options available. According to the SNY reporter, in the case of LHPs, Victor Gonzales and Caleb Ferguson are generally suited as the second lefty pitcher in “An ideal bullpen.”

Moreover, Andy Martino says with due respect to Gonzales and Ferguson, they have not replaced what the NY side had with Wandy Peralta in the last few seasons. It has been the era of expanded playoffs, and at present, it is too early to identify sellers, feels Martino. Nonetheless, he said that a few lefty LHPs might be available, and some of them are King and Romero of the Cardinals, Taylor Rogers of the San Francisco Giants, and Garrett Cleavinger of the Tampa Bay Rays. Moreover, Martino expects the Miami Marlins and Colorado Rockies to deal Tanner Scott and Jalen Beeks, respectively, as well. Hence, there will be quite some pitchers available for the Yankees and other interested teams to buy before August 1.

How Two Hurlers In Their Middle Career Can Help The Bombers?

JoJo Romero and John King are two left-handed pitchers who are in the middle of their careers. Last offseason, the Yankees lost a lot of LHPs while they traded for Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo, and Trent Grisham. The trade with the San Diego Padres saw the Bronx Bombers go all-in. They needed that trade to bolster their offense. Now, they need another trade to bolster their bullpen.

For that, King and Romero are perfect choices. They can really fix the lack of left-handed hurlers in the bullpen. At least, they will increase the depth of the bullpen. To make a run for the World Series, they will look to buy any options that increase their chances. If they can land both hurlers from the Cardinals, that will be a serious upgrade.
