Last year was nothing short of a nightmare for the New York Yankees as they finished fourth in AL-East. With an abysmal record of 82-80, the team had trouble staying above .500 for almost half of the season. Naturally, the Bronx Bombers finished outside of the postseason for the first time in a long while.

Regardless, in 2024, the Yankees seem confident of a turnaround courtesy of the significant additions to the roster over the winter break. While the AL-East rivals are getting stronger each day, the Bronx Bombers are still expected to behold division supremacy. The recent PECOTA projections further fuel the Yanks’ awe-inspiring comeback campaign.

In a surprising turn of events, the New York Yankees are projected to be strong contenders to win the American League East division in the 2024 MLB season. Last season, the team lost division supremacy to the resurgent Baltimore Orioles. To add to the misery, the team finished outside the postseason with an awful 82-80 record. Moreover, with Corbin Burnes’s trade to the Orioles, Yankee fans lost hope of a division triumph this season. However, PECOTA’s simulations suggest otherwise. In PECOTA’s latest projected standings, the Bronx Bombers stand a 57.8% chance to win AL-East and finish with 94.4 wins on average. It’s also the fourth-best projected win total in all of baseball, behind the LA Dodgers (101.1), Atlanta Braves (100.7), and Houston Astros (95.0).

While the New York Yankees are projected to win the competitive AL-East division, the Blue Jays could likely finish second, with Baltimore Orioles at third. Moreover, in a much positive prediction, the Yanks stand a 92.1 % chance to qualify for the postseason this year. The team also stands a 10.8% chance to make it to the World Series as well. Needless to say, the off-season moves of Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo, Trent Grisham, and Marcus Stroman have added new life to the Yankee roster. The lineup on paper seems a force to be reckoned with. The only job now is to nail the execution. Undoubtedly, the Bronx Bombers will be a lot more competitive this season. Barring any injury concerns and worrying slumps, the Yankee boys will excel in the pinstripes to bring back the lost glory to New York. It’s plausible the decade-long championship drought could cease to exist in 2024.

In a shocking development, the Baltimore Orioles traded former CY Young pitcher Corbin Burnes from the Milwaukee Brewers. Notably, the New York Yankees also tried their hand at the sweepstakes. However, the Brewers’ asking price seemed too steep. And thus, the Bombers opted out. However, the Yank’s loss ended up being the Oriole’s gain.

Baltimore Orioles’ acquisition of Burnes is a perfect testament to how the club is serious about defending the AL-East title in 2024. On the other hand, the Yankees missed out on another top-tier pitching candidate after failing to land Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Blake Snell previously. Only time will tell if Burnes ends up being the difference between the Yanks and the AL-East division title.
