Juan Soto came as a blessing for the New York Yankees. They had a terrible 2023 season. First of all, the NY side could not make the postseason for the first time since 2016. Secondly, they finished fourth in the American League East division with an awful 82-80 record. It was the worst season in the last 30 years for the Bronx Bombers. Moreover, the NY side had to deal with too many injury issues, especially to key players like Aaron Judge and Anthony Rizzo. After a horrible season like that, the Yankees needed something to feel optimistic about.

That’s when the front office managed to sign Juan Soto for a one-year deal before the hitter reached free agency. Now, most fans wonder where Soto’s future lies in the league. Some believe he should forever be a Yankee. Then, some suggest he should go back to Washington. But what does the Dominican superstar have to say about it? Juan Soto said he is focusing on this year and wants to help the Yankees win the World Series. Lately, an MLB insider shared a cold truth about the 2020 NL Batting champion.

The Cold Truth About Juan Soto

Lately, in an interview with YES Network, Hal Steinbrenner told Jack Curry that he wants Soto to play the rest of his career wearing the pinstripe uniform. That’s not just the wish of the owner of the Yankees but all the fans in the Bronx. Moreover, the way the Dominican superstar has started the current season, he has turned out to be the most impactful player in the offense of the NY side. But he will be a free agent at the end of the 2024 season. And he is likely to be the biggest free agent and might ask for a Shohei Ohtani-like contract.

Recently, Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY mentioned that the cold truth about Juan Soto is that he will unlikely sign a contract before he is a free agent. After all, Scott Boras is the agent of the Dominican superstar. And as Boras is famous for taking his clients to free agency to test the market before signing a deal, that’s what he will do with Soto. As per Nightengale, there is zero chance that the three-time All-Star might sign a contract extension with the Yankees before he hits free agency. But the front office of the Bronx Bombers feel the same way that they want to see Soto in the Bronx for the rest of his career.

The Three-Time All-Star Claims His Doors Have Always Been Open

Generally, the clients of Scott Boras don’t sign extensions in the middle of a season. But when the reporters asked Soto about his comments on Hal Steinbrenner’s wish for him stay here for the rest of his career, he replied his doors are open. Adding to that, Juan Soto said it has always been open as the people interested have got the phone number of Scott Boras.

Moreover, the three-time All-Star said Scott always likes to hear what Hal has to say. Hence, Soto’s agent would love to get a call from Steinbrenner and Brian Cashman. But as for Juan Soto, he said, “I’m here to play baseball and that’s what I’m gonna do.”
